Jackpot Challenge

There are lots of challenge caches out there and I've had fun working toward finding them, but many require months or even years of caching with the goal in mind in order to meet the requirements. So how about one that can be accomplished in just 7 days? Yup, this challenge not only can be accomplished in 7 days or less, it must be accomplished in 7 days or less!

Being a challenge cache, you must complete the challenge requirements before finding and logging this cache. The challenge you must complete is the geocaching Jackpot, which as every casino goer knows means triple 7's!

Challenge requirement: before finding this cache you must find and log 7 or more caches that each have a combined difficulty/terrain rating of 7 or higher within a 7 day period. *

* Also, to add a degree of well-roundedness to the requirements, your qualifying caches must be of 3 or more types of caches (Traditional, Multi, etc.).

The combined difficulty/terrain is computed by adding the difficulty and terrain ratings together, so a cache with a 3 difficulty and 4 terrain is a combined rating of 7 and would qualify to fulfill the requirements.

So who is this challenge for?
  • If you like high terrain caches, this challenge is just right for you!
  • If you like difficult puzzles or insanely difficult hides, it's right for you, too!
  • If you like both tough terrains and difficult puzzles like I do, then you probably already qualify, so go get it!
  • If you normally avoid difficult caches, this is your chance to try something different for a week (or put this on your ignore list)!

If the joy of finding 7 challenging caches within a week isn't enough, the first 50 finders of this cache will get one (or more, if they aren't going fast enough) of these:

Those are not in the cache (don't want a muggle to get them), so after finding this cache I'll get it to you either in person or by mail. After you find the cache email me to arrange for retrieval or your tag.

Additional rules and clarifications

  • As mentioned above, your 7 qualifying cache finds must be of at least 3 different types of caches. There are LOTS of multis, puzzles, and traditionals that qualify as well as some of the rarer types (letterbox, virtual, wherigo, etc) so that shouldn't be a big burden.
  • Liar's caches, or caches that are deliberately overrated do not qualify for the purpose of meeting these requirements. Here are a couple of examples in the west Michigan area that are liar's caches that cannot be used for this challenge:
  • Challenge caches (reward caches for finding other caches) do not count since the challenge cache hides themselves are typically not difficult hides. A rare exception is GC22N2N which is on an island.
  • Previous finds count, so if you qualified before this cache published then you are qualified.
  • You may not count this cache as one of your 7 qualifiers.
  • The distribution of finds over the 7 days is up to you. Can be 7 in one day, 1 per day for seven straight, or anything in between.

You may demonstrate your accomplishment either by listing the GC numbers and date of find in your found log, or with a bookmark list that includes the find dates. Also include this cache in your bookmark list. Feel free to post notes to this page of your qualifying status ahead of your find if you wish, but posting a note isn't a requirement.

The difficulty and terrain ratings for this cache reflect the need to meet the challenge, but are not representative of this hide itself. As a standalone hide, this cache is about a 2 difficulty and 2 terrain.

Finding qualifying caches:
There are lots of qualifying caches all over Michigan (and out of state), including six of our own hides. A pocket query with terrain and difficulty set at 2+ will turn up many of them. If people are having trouble finding enough qualifiers, I can always place a couple more puzzle caches up in trees or dunes for you.

Though we can't find our own cache, we met the requirements for this challenge twice now. First over the winter while out trying to fill in our fizzy matrix, and the second time shortly after this challenge published in late June of 2010 (again working on fizzy matrix). See the bookmark listings for this cache and you will find our bookmarks showing our qualifying finds and dates.

Note that the cache is not at the posted coordinates. The coordinates for the cache are listed under "Additional Waypoints" at the bottom of this cache description.

Congratulations to JBExpress for their FTF!
