This cache has been archived.

TeamObbie1: Looks like everyone who attended is accounted for here so it's time to archive it. 10 people and 4 dogs with good weather in an ideal setting on a holiday weekend made this a super event. Thanks to all who attended.

Geocache Description:

Inspiration:

Fellow Geocacher Martin Pedersen is on a diet. Martin is determined lose 100 pounds by the end of the year. He's using geocaching to shed the weight. His aim is to find 1000 geocaches and walk 2500 kilometers(1554 miles).

THE PLAN:

Geocaching events for our own "NoVAGO Geocaching Diet". Each event allows the Geocacher to work towards their own individual goals. While not required, please post your goals and progress toward them in your log posts so that we can encourage and celebrate our progress!

Our Event: Red Rock Wilderness Overlook

We know it is a holiday weekend but this park has a great view of the "Patriotic Potomac"!

Hiking the Red Rock Wilderness Overlook Regional Park. This is a shady park and hopefully it won’t be too warm for a nice hike. This 67-acre park has great panoramic views of the Potomac river and wonderful forest trails to explore and hike. This is a lovely spot for a nature walk and birding. There are 6 trails that you can turn into a loop of various lengths depending on how long a walk you'd like to do. The views of the Potomac are always lovely.

The park consists of a tract of hilly, mostly deciduous woodlands (shady) crisscrossed by short, well-maintained trails. The six main trails are color blazed and named. Depending on the path you choose there can be significant elevation change. Scenery: Hilly woodlands, river vistas. Trail surface: Mostly hardpacked dirt; can be wet, muddy on floodplain.

You do not have to be a member of NoVAGO to attend - ALL Geocachers are welcome. This is an opportunity for geocachers to meet, get together, talk about our geocaching adventures and encourage each other on our Geocaching Diet goals!

Let's meet at 9:00 am to beat the heat. There are not any picnic tables but there is a large green space to meet.
