Während der Jungsteinzeit wurden häufig Findlinge als Wächtersteine vor Grabstätten aufgestellt, um diese symbolisch zu schützen. In den Jahren 1999 bis 2001 wurden solche als Kunstwerk mit historischem Bezug im Oberurseler Gewerbegebiet 'An den 3 Hasen' aufgestellt.

Findlinge
Ein Findling ist ein Felsen oder Stein, der nicht aus dem Gestein an seinem jetzigen Standort besteht. Er wurde dorthin durch einen Gletscher oftmals über Hunderte von Kilometern transportiert.
Geologen identifzieren einen Findling in dem sie die Zusammensetzung des Findlings mit dem Gestein seiner Umgebung vergleichen.

Transport
Findlinge können auf unterschiedliche Art und Weise an Ihren jetzigen Standort gekommen sein.
- Auf der Oberseite eines Gletschers 'reitend'
- An der Unterseite des Gletschers rollend
- Eingefroren in einer Eisscholle
- eines Gletschersees (und dann vielleicht bei dem Dammbruch eines solchen weiter gespült)
Bedeutung
Nachdem sich durch chemische Analysen der genaue Ursprung der Reise des Findlings bestimmen läßt, kann man dadurch bestimmen:
- wo in prehistorische Zeit Gletscher waren.
- die Hochwasserständer der Gletscherseen sowie den Verlauf der Flut nach einem Dammbruch.
- Findlinge, die in einem Eisberg eingefroren waren, machen Gletscherbewegungen in der Arktis und der Antarktis weit vor unserer Zeitrechnung erforschbar. In Zusammenhang mit den Temperaturen und Strömungen des Meeres machen sie Computermodelle unseres Klimas genauer.

During the New Stone Age often glacial erratics were placed in front of burial places to protect them in a symbolic way. In the years 1999 to 2001 such stones were placed as piece of art with historic meaning in the industrial area 'an den 3 Hasen' in Oberursel.

Glacial erratic
A glacial erratic is a rock or piece of rock that differs from the rocks native to it's present location. It was transported there by glacial ice often over distances of several hundred kilometers.
Geologists identify erratics by comparing their composition with the bedrock in their surroundings.

Transport
Erratics can be brought to their place in different ways
- 'riding' on top of a glacier
- rafting in glacial lake (and maybe following the flood after an ice dam failure)
- of an iceberg in the ocean
Significance
Chemical analysis allows to determine the exact origin of the erratic and therefore we can say
- where in prehistoric times glaciers have been
- where the floodmarks of glacial lakes have been and the extent of ice dam failures
- Glacial erratics, dropped by icebergs, allow to track arctic and antarctic glacial movements that happened before we could record time. In connection with ocean temperature and drift they are used to enhance computer modells of our climate.
Logging requirements
As with other eartcaches there is no physical log at the site. Please answer the following questions to obtain the permission to log:
- How many sentry stones have been placed between 1999 and 2001 at the '3 Hasen'?
Also the Titel of the piece of Art
- What is the name of the rock of the sentry stones?

- How many sentry stones are within a radius of 20m from the coordinates?
