Geocache Description:

Party at the Moon Tower #2
East Side Drive and Leland Street

Once a popular form of lighting in the US and Europe, Austin is now home to the only remaining moonlight towers in the world. Between 1894 and 1895 there were 31 moon towers erected in Austin. The original carbon arc lamps used illuminated a circle approximately 3,000 feet in diameter with a blue-white light (The towers now use 6,400-watt mercury vapor bulbs). Sadly, just 15 moon towers remain today. They are now designated as official state archeological landmarks and are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

This moon tower is right on the Blunn Creek Greenbelt. The greenbelt connects Little Stacy Park and Big Stacy Park. If you have time to check it out, Little Stacy Park has a great kiddie wading pool open in the Summer, grills, a basketball court and a playground. Big Stacy Park is actually smaller but has a full sized swimming pool. Big Stacy Pool is open all year thanks to an underground hot spring that feeds it and heats the water.

Bring your own pen! Watch out for mugglers!

NOTE: This one gives people problems. It's not hard but it blends right in. Just saying... I check it all the time b/c of grumpy DNFs and it's always right were I left it.
