Fruit Basket Upset Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

shurtfam: We recently found one of the containers of our multi-cache in a location other than where it was supposed to. When we went to put it back in place, we also checked the other twelve containers that made up the overall multi-cache and found that three of them were completely missing. Therefore, since this overall multi-cache has been so difficult for us to keep up and running, coupled with the fact that very few cachers have attempted it since we put it out, we have decided to archive it. We are working on ideas about how we might be able to reutilize the remaining special fruit-shaped containers for some other caches in the future.

Thanks to everyone who has completed or attempted the cache in the past. We hope it provided you with a challenge and some fun and memories.

Geocache Description:

This is a 12-part multi-cache. Although access is via a hard-packed dirt road, it has several ruts and pot-holes that can fill with water after a rain or snow storm (2WD OK). It is best to park, leave your vehicle, and walk (all caches, including the final, are within 1100 feet from the parking area). The terrain consists of sandy hills, an open meadow, and the edge of a dry lake bed. (The meadow and lake bed could get slightly wet in high water years, which are very rare around here.

Congratulations Jinxed95 and family on being the FTF. We're glad you all went together to find it. We also want to thank you for helping us obtain the materials to build the containers for this Cache.

This cache is designed to be a fun geo-game. It is a multi-cache that consists of a series of twelve unique cache containers; plus it is also a simple puzzle cache. Of course, the published coordinates are for the first container. Each of the first ten intermediate caches contains a piece of paper that includes the following:

a. A silly joke or phrase
b. The coordinates of the next intermediate cache
c. A nonsensical story problem (or clue) that, when solved, results in a single-digit number that will be needed in order to obtain the coordinates of the final (twelfth) Cache.

The eleventh intermediate cache includes the Instructions of how to use the answers to the clues from the first ten intermediate caches to obtain the coordinates for the final cache. After solving for the final coordinates, you can then proceed to the final cache, which contains the logbook, a pencil, and various trade items, including an initial TB and FTF trophy.

In case any of the containers are missing or can’t be found, the coordinates of the intermediate containers are as follows:

Container 2: N 39° 29.780’ W 118°42.905’
Container 3: N 39° 29.859’ W 118°42.893’
Container 4: N 39° 29.784’ W 118°42.833’
Container 5: N 39° 29.752’ W 118°42.835’
Container 6: N 39° 29.820’ W 118°42.790’
Container 7: N 39° 29.799’ W 118°42.697’
Container 8: N 39° 29.765’ W 118°42.769’
Container 9: N 39° 29.696’ W 118°42.800’
Container 10: N 39° 29.628’ W 118°42.801’
Container 11: Includes information that reveals a short cut, so the coordinates cannot be listed here.

The overall cache has a total distance of about 1 mile and is best done completely on foot. A nice place to park is at N39 29.710 W118 42.909’. The first cache is within 250 feet of this location. All of the other caches are between 200 and 600 feet apart and you will never be more than about 1100 feet from your vehicle. Total time to complete the hunt is between one and one-and-a-half hours.

Please be careful to put the cache containers back how and where you find them so that they won’t get blown or otherwise carried away and so that they won’t get stepped on by cattle, which do frequently visit the area.

Also, most of the caches are located in or around Russian olive trees or greasewood bushes, both of which contain very sharp thorns, so you may want to have a pair of gloves. You should also take along a pad and pen/pencil so you can keep track of the clues for the final cache location. The area could also become somewhat marshy during an extremely wet season, which only happens every few years in Fallon.

Good Luck and we hope you have as much fun and enjoyment out of doing our cache as we did in planning it, putting it together, and putting it out.
