Mapperley Brick Works covered an area bounded by Mapperley Rise,
Woodborough Road, Woodthorpe Drive and the grounds of Woodthorpe
Grange (now Woodthorpe Park). Brick making in the area started in
the 1730s and lasted until the 1950s. The works was connected to
the Nottingham suburban railway at Sherwood station via an inclined
tramway. Sherwood station was at the south western corner of the
park on the site now occupied by two tower blocks.
