And So It Begins - Hurricane Season III Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

fraygirls: We'd like to thank everyone who attended this gathering for helping to advance our pathetic superstitious belief that this event somehow keeps the storms at bay. Guess we'll find out in November!

Geocache Description:

June is a significant month for the people of the Cape Fear region. Memorial Day is a thing of the past and the school year is just about over. That's right – the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season has arrived and it won’t be long before The Weather Channel reporters start hanging out at Wrightsville Beach (although they really belong in Brunswick County, the oft-cited "area between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach")! What better time to have a hurricane preparedness lunchinar with all of our fellow cachers?

We'll meet at the usual place at 3:00 for some lunch and a discussion of our best hurricane-related strategies and tactics. We’re curious - how often do you watch The Weather Channel’s Tropical Report? What do you do when a tropical system approaches…what irrational purchases do you make at the grocery store at 2:30 a.m.? Do you actually fill the bathtub with water? Do you worry more during the el niño years or the la niña ones? What will you do to protect any caches that are nearby? We’ve been lucky the past few years, but one can never be too prepared for the occasional tropical disturbance!

We're hoping that folks will celebrate the start of the tourist season with us downtown, enjoy a few hours of Cape Fear caching, and then join us for this potentially informative event. (Who could possibly forget last year's lesson on the many uses of Wonder Bread during an emergency?!) Weather permitting, we'll meet outside on the patio. Otherwise, we'll be in our usual spot in the back room. We hope to see you (and your best hurricane coping strategies) there!

Be sure to study your hurricane trivia - we will be giving away a storm-themed cache to one lucky hurricane expert!

Has anyone else noticed that this region HAS NOT seen one major tropical disturbance since we've started holding this event? Coincidence? We think not!
