Whitefield was in 1853 a part of the township of Pilkington, in the parish of Prestwich-cum-Oldham. [11] Pilkington ceased to be a township in 1894 and at the same time part of the old boundary of Whitefield was absorbed by Radcliffe. [5] The realignment of the boundary with Radcliffe was due to the location of the
