This cache has been archived.

EdgeMonks: Archiving this one. There were 92 people filling out ballots for the door prizes at Nick's, plus a lot of other cachers who were able to hide caches and find them on the weekend. Thank you to everyone for your participation. See you in the spring.

Hiding Your Caches

Classes for the Summer 2010 Calgary Cache and Release event:

Rainbow - 3 bright colours – cache or series of caches must display at least 3 bright colours
Dr Seuss - custom built cache - this category can be a micro container, but the outside volume of your uniquely constructed container must be a minimum of 60 cm3
Copperhead Road - dirt road run - cache placed along a dirt road (no gravel or paved roads allowed)
Raptors - dinosaur themed cache - child friendly cache
History - celebrate the past - cache placement must relate to a local historical event, place, or person that is described on the cache page
Casper - spooky hunt - cache that can only be found at night
Mike Holmes - special tool required - cache requires a special tool or device to retrieve it
Don't judge me - no votes - caches in this category will not be voted on

1) No micros allowed. Minimum inner volume of the cache container is 180 cm3 (small LnL). The Dr Seuss category is the exception, where micros will be allowed (minimum external volume of 60 cm3).
2) Not in spruce trees.
3) Winter friendly.
4) Within 40 km of downtown coordinates of N51 02.658 W114 03.786.
5) Each cache can be entered in up to TWO categories (hider defines the classes). Mention the classes being entered on your cache page.

Publishing Your Caches

Caches should be hidden and submitted to Groundspeak (before August 24th to give Cache Effect a chance to review them in an orderly manner) to reserve your little piece of heaven before someone else hides a cache there. Please use “CCARS10” as the last seven characters in your cache name so a pocket query can be generated.

Please ask Cache Effect to hold your listing for release at 6:00 pm on August 26th.

Please note:

There is an issue with releasing caches to geocaching.com for approval. Once released, the cache page is locked so that you can't make further changes (content or icons, etc.), and you have to ask to have it unlocked to make alterations. We think this will happen quite often in the next month as people fine tune their presentations. If you don't release the cache for their approval, however, your location could end up being taken by another hider, and your cache would not be approved because of proximity issues.

As with the last CCAR event, please use Cache Effect’s suggestion for holding a location:
They suggest that you create a cache page for your cache, and submit it to geocaching with a Reviewer Note for a "Location Check, please hold for a month for the CCAR event if the location is OK". Cache Effect will check the coordinates and confirm that the location is suitable for a cache (no proximity or other issues). They will hold the location (don't change the coordinates, or you'll be back at the bottom of the list) for a month while you make the cache page presentable with the latest icons, etc. and place the cache. Once it is placed, submit it for approval with the usual reviewer note to hold the cache page until August 26.

Finding Caches

The Finding part will take place from noon on Saturday, August 28 until noon on Sunday, August 29. Cache Effect will publish the listings for the new caches on Thursday evening, leaving plenty of time for planning your route.

DanOCan or peanutbutterbreadandjam will compile a summary of all the CCARS10 caches published on August 27.

EdgeMonks will be taking the listings and create a spreadsheet for you to print and take along on your hunting. This listing will be used for voting on the caches, and we’ll put a link to it here as soon as it is available.

There are FOUR events for meeting up with other cachers during this period.

The first is the CCARS10 Kick Off, which will be held at the Scenic Acres Community Centre in NW Calgary. Meet up with other cachers and get ready for the weekend.

The second is the traditional CCARS10 - Midnight Event. Meet up with other cachers, and enjoy the stories at the half way point. This event will be held in the NW corner of the Deerfoot Mall parking lot in NE Calgary (64th Ave to the East of Deerfoot Trail).

NEW FOR THIS WEEKEND is a third event in Airdrie. The CCARS10 Do You Like Green Eggs and Ham? Event will take place on Sunday morning in Airdrie. Meet up with other cachers, and enjoy the stories and get ready for the final stretch to the final event.

The wrapup event is the subject of this cache page, and will be held at Nick’s on Sunday starting at noon. Children are welcome and encouraged. Bring your voting forms, and drop them off at the front. Nick’s will have their Sunday buffet available to anyone who wishes to eat, and they will handle separate bills. Drop off your memory cards of photos from the previous 24 hours, and we’ll download your photos for a slideshow during the event.

We will be handing out prizes for the best cache in each class, and several door prizes from our many donors, and our major sponsor, GPS Central.

Miscellaneous

Post your comments about the Cache and Release part of this event here.

Please see the following website to gain more information about this event: http://ccar.calgarycachers.net

We'll need someone to create the cool icons for the winners of the various classes, and of course we'll need some prizes. Please let us know if you are able to donate some prizes, or are able to contact a corporate sponsor for a donation.

We have a few flags left over from the last event that we’ll have available for a small fee for the new cachers that don’t have one yet.

That’s all for now, please watch this listing to see when updates are made.
