Watershed)
SNC is an environmental organization that works closely with its
member municipalities, government, individual landowners and
various community groups to maintain and improve the natural
resources waterways within its watershed. On your journey to this
cache, you'll be a witness to the beauty of the South Nation River
that we are working hard to protect.
FINDING THIS GEOCACHE
WILL REQUIRE THE USE OF A CANOE OR
KAYAK
You should park at the parking coordinates to launch your canoe or
kayak. This launch is unpaved. Be sure to wear a lifejacket, and
review all applicable regulations before your trip. You should also
consider bringing sunscreen, bugspray and lots of water. From the
launch, you will paddle approximately 4 kilometers upstream, until
you arrive at North Cassel Island (Note- not an official name, but
let's see if it catches on). As you approach the island, you'll
notice how shallow the water gets. In low water times, you might
find a flat rock shore- perfect for a picnic. I very strongly
recommend wearing shoes and pants (not shorts) to find this
geocache- There seems to be an abundance of stinging
nettles. If you don't familiarize yourself with nettle species
before your trip, you will probably be very familiar with them by
the end of your trip. The cache itself is a regular sized container
hidden near the heart of the island.
This cache should not be attempted in Winter. Ice conditions are
quite unpredictable and very dangerous- even deadly. Swimming is
also not recommended, as the river current can also be quite swift
at times.
Unactivated SNC Geocoin for the first to find.
