The entrance to the dog walk can be found to the left of the services building.
On 15th April 2010, I was out walking with Charlie when I noticed a large plume of smoke coming from the services. As I walked on, the plume became thicker and more dense, despite being over 2 miles away, I could also smell it. An almost continuous line of emergency vehicles sped under the motorway bridge and the Northbound traffic was bought to a standstill as they passed. It wasn't until I got home, I found out what the cause was.
On 15th April 2010, a major fire broke out at this service station which gutted the main buildings and destroyed the roof. About 120 firefighters were called out to the fire which started about 1pm. There were no casualties & motorists were warned to drive carefully as smoke billowed across the motorway. Thehoomer have been discussing placing a Motorway Mayhem at these services for a number of years and since there were no casualties at this incident, we decided that now was a good time to mark this event with a cache. The above photograph was taken on a nearby bridge with my mobile phone, so is rather poor but it did capture the moment. It would be good to see some updated photographs of the new building as it gets erected, so please feel free to add to the gallery.
