Geocache Description:

NOTE: An UV light will be needed for part of the trail. (If you don't have one, email me and I will leave one in the appropriate location for you to borrow.)

Welcome to Oxted Oddments MI6, a quick multi-cache with a little twist. For fun, we have tried to make it ‘Secret Spy’ in style. The start point is inside Oxted Library. There is some parking outside (for a limited period). I have added a waypoint for a car park in Oxted. There is no charge out of traditional rush hour times (see board for details) BUT you must display a ticket (even in the free periods).

Library Opening Times...
Monday Closed
Tuesday 9am - 7pm
Wed 9am - 5pm
Thursday 9am - 5pm
Friday 9am - 5pm
Saturday 9am - 5pm
Sunday Closed

The multi-cache takes you to 4 different locations around Oxted. The final cache should be found in around half an hour.

Each location relies on a different aspect of what are thought to be spy techniques for concealment of information. But don’t worry – they are all very basic examples, more in tune with children’s fun books than real cloak and dagger stuff!
Have fun. :-)

So, at the library…
You need to find the March 2010 edition of ‘Which?’ magazine in the reference area. At each page number stated here, you need to find and write down the first large bold number on that page. All the numbers will combine to give you the 2nd set of coordinates.
Page numbers as follows… North p46, p40° p28, p51. p8, p81, p52; West 000° 00.084

At the 2nd set of coordinates (Code name ‘Woody’. See clue 1 for help) you will find information giving you the 3rd set of coordinates. You will find some writing with a code hidden within. If you look carefully, you will notice tiny holes in some of the numbers. Write them down in order (you might find the odd N, S, E, W decimal place or degree as well) and you will have the coordinates for the next location.

At the 3rd location (code name ‘Superman’) you will find coordinates to give you the final cache location. This time the information you need is invisible but a UV light may help you. (If you don't have one, email me and I will leave one in the location for you to borrow.) Then on to the cache itself (code name ‘Pink Bob’).

Just for fun… below are some typical spy techniques that may (or may not) help.
There are all sorts of codes. Some of the simplest rely on a straight substitution of letters or numbers. Often these appear in a book or on a code wheel. Sometimes microscopic words or numbers may be hidden in things such as a full stop in a page of text. Perhaps a secret message may be concealed on an envelope of a letter, under a stamp. Even newspapers may hold clues. Tiny holes could be made in certain letters of a newspaper article. If you hold the paper to the light, it reveals the letters and when they are written down in order, a message is revealed. There are different ways to make ‘invisible ink’ and reveal it. Lemon juice is often suggested in children’s books. You may be more familiar with the black lights used by retailers to check whether pound notes are genuine. Then of course there are classic geocache skills of disguising or hiding containers – even occasionally in plain view!

You are looking for a small, slim cache with very limited capacity.
At time of placing cache contained:

1000 drachma note for FTF.
Log book and pencil
Getaway car – mini fridge magnet
Crawling toy soldier
Magnetic ball
Ball bearing
Marble

Happy hunting!
