Geocache Description:

This is a cache and dash near to Chester Road Baptist Church, it is not on church property. There is easy street parking very near, please don't park on the main roads

The birth of the new Chester Road Baptist Church began with the death of an old one. On 31st July 1890 the Circus Chapel in Bradford Street, Birmingham, was dissolved and the site was sold. The money was handed over to Trustees appointed by the West Midland Baptist Association and on 10th July 1899 the site on Chester Road at the corner of Boldmere Road was purchased. Whilst funds were being raised for a new building it was decided to erect a temporary corrugated iron structure known as the ‘Tin Tab’. The opening service was on 20th June 1905 and the church was formally constituted on 16th October 1905. The most recent addition is the new entrance area opened for the centenary in 2005. Refreshments are served here after the morning service. The Minister at the time of the centenary, Rev. Ken Hawkings, retired after 15 years, in July 2007. For the full story up to the centenary in October 2005 go to; http://www.chesterroadbc.org.uk/content/pages/documents/1258383426.pdf ________________________________________________________________________________ If anybody would like to expand this series please do, I would just ask that you let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication. http://www.geocaching.com/profile/default.aspx?guid=3af7a90d-65ce-45ee-9b73-dc6e95fc9489&wid=bafee28a-5090-4a51-bbf4-aecb69d75d86&ds=2 There is also a Church Micro Stats page found via the Bookmark list ________________________________________________________________________________ FTF Congratulations to One Last Look.
