(EN) You'll engage demanding multistage cache, which will take you to a Roman history of Ljubljana. Cache is a part of the Emona geocaches series. Each »Emona cache« can be approached separately but you can save some walking by planing the approach.

(SI) Rimska kolonija Emona. Mesto, ki je bilo ustanovljeno na tleh današnje Ljubljane pred vec kot 2000 leti. Mesto, ki je živelo ~500 let, njegove ostanke pa so raziskovali že v srednjem veku. Spoznajte mesto Emona in preverite, kje so ostanki Emone še dandanes vidni v Ljubljani. Prvi od emonskih geozakladov vas bo popeljal po sledeh emonskega obzidja.

Dograditev Emone povezujejo z ostanki rimske napisne plošce, ki so jo pred vec kot sto leti našli na prostoru današnjega Trga francoske revolucije, kjer so nekoc stala emonska vzhodna glavna vrata (porta principalis dextra).

Napis pravi, da sta cesar Avgust in njegov posinovljenec Tiberij dala v Emoni postaviti neko vecjo javno zgradbo, morda obzidje s stolpi, med leti 14/15 n.š. Rekonstrukcija napisa se glasi:

”Vladar Cezar, sin božanskega (Cezarja), Avgust, najvišji svecenik, trinajstkrat konzul, enaindvajsetkrat vrhovni poveljnik (imperator), ki mu je bila sedemintridesetkrat potrjena oblast tribuna, in Tiberij Cezar, sin božanskega Avgusta, Avgust, najvišji svecenik, dvakrat konzul, šestkrat vrhovni poveljnik, ki mu je bila šestnajstkrat potrjena oblast tribuna, sta dala (mestu) [obzidje in stolpe?].”

(EN) Roman colony Emona. A city that has been founded at the location of today’s Ljubljana more than 2000 years ago. A city, that lived for ~500 years. Researchers investigated its remains already in the middle ages and even today you can find Emona remains on the streets of Ljubljana. First of Emona geocaches will take you on an exploratory journey of its fortified walls.

The construction of the city of Emona is linked to a Roman inscription, which was found more than hundred years ago on the site of today's Trg francoske revolucije, where the eastern main gate of the city formerly stood (porta principalis dextra).

The inscription states that the Emperator Augustus and his adopted son Tiberius had ordered an erection of some bigger public building in the Emona between 14 and 15 AD. Perhaps that were walls and towers! The inscription reads:

IMPERATOR CAESAR AUGUSTUS, son of the divine (Julius) the high priest, thirteen consul, twenty first Emperor, in the thitry seven year of authority as tribune, father of his country (and) TIBERIUS CAESAR AUGUSTUS, son of devine Augustus, second consul, sixth Emperor, in the sixteenth year of authority as tribune – had given to (the city) [the walls with towers?].
