Geocache Description:

One of a series of caches placed on Ulva to celebrate 10 years of geocaching.

Ulva is a private island, reached by ferry from mainland Mull. The ferry operates Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm (on demand), and also on Sundays, 1 JUne to end of August. There is no ferry service on Saturdays.

Ulva was visited by Johnson and Boswell in 1773, but didn’t stay very long, and found MacQuarrie’s home to be rather ‘mean’. In 1841, the population of the island was 570; today it is 12 (of whom two attend school off the island).

The cache is placed near the church, built to a design by Thomas Telford. Note the triangular war memorial in the church grounds.
