Odstone Hall is a 16th Century Elizabethan House now used as a
Guest House/Country Retreat. It has recently changed ownership and
was supposed to re-open in Summer 2010, although it is not yet (Sep
2011).
The house was once owned by John Bradshaw, a High Court Judge and
one of those who signed the death warrant of Charles I.
Follow, follow the yellow grass road straight up through the
field - you should be able to see the far marker post. If crops or
mud prevent this walk around the edge.
Update Aug 2011: this summer the field has been planted with beans
(and not looking very healthy), so there is no yellow road to
follow. The path is still partly visible, and remains
accessible.
This is a roundwalk of a little over 7 miles between Newton
Burgoland and Barton in the Beans. Uses public footpaths, including
part of the Leicestershire Round, and a stretch of the
Ashby-de-la-Zouche Canal towpath. Mostly gentle walking with no
steep inclines.
