Mound of the Mandarin Ducks

The story of Oshidori Zuka is recounted in "Shasekisyu" written by the monk Muju in the Kamakura era (1185-1333):

A hunter shot a mandarin drake at the nearby Asari River. He cut off the drake's head and carried home only its body.
The next day, he shot a female duck huddeled in the same spot, and found...

おしどり塚は鎌倉時代に無住法師の「沙石集」によって紹介された旧跡地で,次のような話が伝えられています。

鎌倉時代の頃,この付近を流れていた求食(あさり)川で猟師が一羽の雄のおしどりを射止め,その首を切り,身体だけを持ち帰った。
翌日同じ場所でうずくまっている雌のおしどりを射ると,その翼の下には・・・
