To add to the festivities for Ithaca, NY's 10 Years! celebration,
we placed this 30 cal ammo can cache because regular-sized caches
are our favorite.
We didn't start caching until 2007 so we missed out on all the
early years of geocaching and all the fun from 5/2/2000 when
selective availability was lifted until our first cache on on
1/6/2007. The first cache was placed by Dave Ulmer at N 45° 17.460
W 122° 24.800 outside of Portland, Oregon 2,268 miles from our home
yet, like many cachers, we have traveled the distance to go there.
We've also cached in all 80 DeLorme blocks in New York and all of
the state's 62 counties. We are happy to be able to celebrate
geocaching's 10th anniversary here in Ithaca, close to home.
The cache is an ammo can in an easily accessed location (you can
park less than 100 feet away). It is well stocked with the
sunflower geocoin that won Woodland Clan's 'race within a race', a
geocaching patch, a magic towel, a leather-bound log book, one of
the EmTeeNesters' signature copper balls, a set of unactivated
travel bug dog tags, an 'I Love NY' pottery thimble, a smashed
penny, a Pez geocoin from Vanelle, a handkerchief, an organic
cotton reusable grocery/produce bag, an antique bronze 7th
anniversary geocoin for discovery (attached to log book), a
trackable NNYGeo wooden nickel, and a Pooh Pez candy dispenser.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, GEOCACHING!
