This cache IS hidden at the posted coordinates, but you must successfully complete the challenge and post the list of caches with your found log. (note: that as of Mar. 25/12 I have removed the requirement of posting a note and getting permission prior to seeking the cache.)
THE CHALLENGE
Find and log a cache hidden during each year of geocaching's existence.
The first geocache was hidden May 3, 2000, a day after the public was granted access by the U.S. government to a ten times more accurate GPS signal than they had previously allowed. That means that, as of this cache being published, eleven caches will be on your list. As each year passes, another cache will be needed to complete the challenge (ex. 2011, 2012, etc.).
TO MAKE A CLAIM
You can post your claim in one of the following ways:
1) List the caches found in your found log, using the following format: Year, GC code, Date you found the cache.
My list would be: 2000 GC79 Sept. 10/09 2001 GC14F July 13/08 2002 GC353A June 21/09 2003 GC46DE June 20/09 2004 GCHJ6V May 28/07 2005 GCMDYN Aug. 8/07 2006 GCRVW3 July 31/07 2007 GC10CKT Sept. 8/09 2008 GC185ZR July 20/08 2009 GC1K6GA Jan. 6/09 2010 GC22J8M Jan. 10/10 etc. (or if you wanted to be especially kind you could list the links to your actual logs for the caches)
OR
2) Create a bookmark list of the caches you are using and mention the list in your found log. Edit the name field of the cache and type the year the cache was hidden before the name of the cache (so that the list is now sorted by year), then write the date you found it in the note section. Also include this cache in your bookmark list. See my example in the bookmark lists for further clarity.
OR
3) Use the challenge checker at project-gc and supply the proof it gives you. Please note that the checker that they created is looking for caches from each month of each year, not just one cache per year.
If a person logs this cache without evidence of having completed the challenge, then I will send them an e-mail letting them know I plan to delete their log.

There is a plaque which has been placed in tribute to the first geocache, and of course it has its own geocache! I really recommend doing this one. I didn't expect it to be quite where it was, and the drive is a lot of fun! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=a79d6f50-74a6-4c85-b18c-86dd8b7313ab

GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY CACHING!
Jan. 15/11 EDIT: I ran across another website listing all the caches hidden in the first year of caching, and it also includes a separate list of Canadian caches. Looks to be pretty thorough. It can be found at http://www.barge.ca/oldcachespro.htm
