There was once a cache nearby this location, by the name of
“1 LEAN BIGRED”, however, it had to be moved. The
reason being, the nearby bridge, the only wooden bridge in Florida
according to the locals, is not in the best of shape. Well the DOT
has decided to replace this rugged, old and quaintly noisy bridge
with a new bridge. I’m not yet sure what it will like, but it
will probably lack character as do most bridges built anymore on
back roads.
The
deconstruction of the existing bridge was scheduled to begin on
March 1, 2010, at which time the only access to this cache and
nearby Tosatchee Wildlife Management Area would only be from the
south end of Taylor Creek Road. But as things often go when the
government is running the show, nothing has begun here yet.
I’m not sure when it will begin, heck, even the park rangers
are now unsure. When it does start I will update the cache page to
let everyone know.
Since the original cache had been
here so long, with the blessing of Overrover who placed it, the
original container and log are still a part of this cache. Even the
swag is still the same. Essentially it is the same cache in a new
location. This is a very photographic spot and feel free to take
and post any pics including ones showing the cache location. This
is also a great cache for the kids! Please be respectful and
mindful as the cache location has been graciously donated to
geocachers by Jim, the owner of the location. He is really looking
forward to meeting anyone who comes by so please feel free to stop
and chat a while. Also as cachers know, it is always better to
leave the area better than we found it, please practice CITO here,
please help keep this area clean. One more thing, very important!
US Mail boxes for regular mail, whether provided by the Post Office
or by the homeowner are the property of the US Post Office, in
other words Keep Out Of the Snail Mail Box. The Postal Service has
no say on any other boxes (get it?)
