Geocache Description:

When I was younger I used to read a lot of science fiction, so I was intrigued when I received the following email:

Hi Colin

Please forgive me for writing to you out of the blue but you might be able to help me. My wife Mary often talks to your wife while they wait to pick-up the children from school but yesterday she discovered that you are interested in puzzles. I am urgently trying to find somebody who could help me solve one.

It concerns one of my patients (who I shall call "K") . K describes himself as an "alienist" (a term I prefer not to use as it is actually an archaic term for my own profession). He professes to be an expert in alien technology and communication, and is convinced that this information is being suppressed by a global conspiracy. He sees evidence for the paranormal everywhere. Last summer for example he became convinced that there was an invisible sundial in my car park, and spent many evenings searching for it (unsuccessfully I might add).

With my intervention K's paranoia came under control and he has been living a normal life. However in our last session I discovered that he'd had a relapse. He told me he had been investigating a "secret government teleport facility", and claimed that he had intercepted some signals from there.

Believing that this was his chance to prove the existence of aliens he had been working non-stop for the past 3 days in a desperate attempt to decode it. He showed me his notebook and left me a copy of the data. I've attached it to this email (it means little to me as I failed O level Maths).

I wouldn't usually share information given to me by a patient but it seems the only way to save him from a complete breakdown. My wife told me that you know some of the best puzzle-solvers in the country, and so I give you my permission to pass the data on to them. However if you do decide to do this then please ensure that you protect it with a password.

I hope you will be able to help me.

Dr John Watson

After some consideration I've decided that the best way of helping K is to seek help from the Geocaching community as the doctor suggested. The result is this puzzle which has dummy co-ordinates in his car park. Don't try searching for a cache there.

I have made some progress with the puzzle, and surprisingly I've discovered that the teleport does exist (see link).

Edit 10-Jun-2021

Today I received the following email from Dr Watson

Hi Colin

Thanks for all your help. Until today I considered that K's paranoia was fully under control. However he has just sent me a letter. It simply says "The alien has teleported. Add .015 to northing and subtract the same from westing"

Hopefully this will make sense to you.

Dr John Watson
