Havnen i Søby er et vigtigt sted for byens beboere men også for resten af øens befolkning. I den "nordvestlige del" finder man øens største arbejdsplads Søby Værft og i den ”sydøstlige del” finder man lystbådehavnen og færgerne der sejler til Fyn og Als. At dele havnen op i flere dele er dog nok at tage munden lige lovlig fuld, for det er absolut ikke en af de største. Ikke desto mindre er det er driftigt sted, der er en vigtig del af byens sjæl og indbyggernes selvforståelse - nok også derfor, at snakke om at nedlægge færgeruter bliver taget så nær.

The harbour in Søby is an important place for the residents in Søby but also for the rest of the inhabitants of the island. In the "north western part" you'll find the largest place of work on the Island: Søby Værft (shipyard) and in the "south eastern part" you'll find the marina and the ferries which sail to Fyn and Als. To split the harbour into parts is probably a huge exaggeration because it is far from a large harbour. None the less; it is an active place and an important part of the soul of the town and the citizens self-concept - which is probably why the discussions about shutting down ferry routes is taken greatly to heart.

Der Hafen von Søby ist ein wichtiger Ort für die Einwohner. Im „nordwestlichen Teil“ des Hafens finden Sie die Werft von Søby: Der größte und erfolgreichste Arbeitgeber der Insel. Im „südöstlichen Teil“ befinden sich die Marina und die Fähren, die zwischen Ærø-Fyn und Ærø-Als fahren. Den Hafen aufzuteilen ist eigentlich eine große Übertreibung, weil er so klein ist. Nichtsdestoweniger ist der Hafen eine geschäftige Stelle und sehr wichtig für das Selbstverständnis der Einwohner – wahrscheinlich auch der Grund für die starken Emotionen wenn es um die Schließung der Fähren geht.
