This lovely church is tucked away in a village you may miss if you are driving along the busy roads which enclose it.
Down a side road, almost hidden from view is a real Dorset gem.
Iwerne Minster is a village where you are never far from either the sight or sound of running water. Streams and pumps seem to appear at every corner.
In the church yard of St Mary’s, first locate the tomb which is ‘Sacred to the memory of James Hainsworth Ismay – died September 24 ABCD’
The final co-ordinates are 50 55 (B-C+A) DD 002 11.4CC
Through ill-health, Mr Ismay was unable to work in the family business and he turned instead to agriculture and spent his time introducing new breeds and methods on his land which surrounds the village. He was a great benefactor and his kindness is well documented.
For those of a curious nature, you may recognise his family’s business – the White Star Line. James’s brother sailed on the Titanic.
Once you have found Mr Ismay’s tomb and have the new co-ordinates, enjoy your stroll around this delightful village – winner of the Best Kept Village prize five times!
If anybody would like to expand this series please do. We would just ask that you contact sadexploration first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names and to avoid duplication.
