Questa multi-cache vi farà scoprire le sedi storiche delle ben tre università pubbliche presenti nella città di Pisa: l'Università di Pisa, la Scuola Normale Superiore, e la Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna.
L'Università di Pisa venne fondata ufficialmente nel 1343, ed è pertanto tra le più antiche del mondo. Oggi conta più di 50000 iscritti, un numero superiore alla metà dei residenti di Pisa, il che mostra l'impatto fortissimo di questa istituzione sul tessuto sociale, economico e culturale della città. I docenti sono quasi 1800, divisi in 20 dipartimenti sparsi per l'intera città.
Oltre all'Università di Pisa, la città ospita due istituti universitari pubblici a statuto speciale, la Scuola Normale Superiore e la Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. Queste scuole ammettono con un corcorso piuttosto selettivo un numero ridotto di studenti sia pre- che post-laurea. Gli allievi di queste scuole ricevono a titolo gratuito vitto, alloggio, accesso alle biblioteche ed ai laboratori, ma devono superare a pieni voti ed in corso tutti gli esami previsti dal piano di studi, pena la perdita del posto e dei benefici connessi. La Scuola Normale Superiore si rivolge alle scienze pure e accoglie studenti della Classe di Lettere e Filosofia e della Classe di Scienze Matematiche, Fisiche e Naturali. La Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, il cui nome deriva dall'antico convento che occupava l'attuale sede dell'università, si rivolge alle scienze applicate ed i suoi allievi appartengono alla classe di Scienze Sperimentali (Ingegneria, Medicina e Chirurgia, Agraria) od alla Classe di Scienze Sociali (Giurisprudenza, Economia, Scienze Politiche).

Al waypoint iniziale N 43° 42.993' E 010° 23.934' vi trovate di fronte alla sede principale dell'Università di Pisa, il Palazzo alla Giornata. Contate il numero U di lettere dell'ultima parola della scritta che comincia con "UNIVERSITA' DEGLI STUDI", ed il numero V di decorazioni rotonde (vedi figura 1) che campeggiano sulla facciata del palazzo.
STAGE 2
Dirigetevi poi al waypoint N 43° 43.170' E 010° 24.013'. Siete di fronte al Palazzo della Carovana, sede della Scuola Normale Superiore. Contate il numero W di busti (vedi figura 2) che si trovano sulla facciata di questo edificio. Guardate poi la statua Cosimo I di fronte alla scalinata e concentratevi sulla lapide sul lato Sud-Est del basamento (verso la chiesa): la prima parola della lapide è di X lettere.
STAGE 3
Andate al waypoint N 43° 43.228' E 010° 24.197'. Siete di fronte all'ingresso principale della Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. Da fuori contate il numero Y di figure (ciascuna su una ruota) nella statua che si vede nel giardino dietro le sbarre (per favore non entrate per evitare che il portiere si allarmi inutilmente).
STAGE 4
Andate infine al waypoint N 43° 43.280' E 010° 24.133'. Siete di fronte alla chiesa di Sant'Anna, appartenente al convento omonimo che ora ospita la Scuola. Trovate Z dall'anno 140Z in cui la chiesa ed il convento di Sant'Anna vennero edificati.

This multicache will guide you among the historical premises of the three public universities in Pisa: University of Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore, and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna.
The University of Pisa was officially stablished in 1343, thus it is one of the oldest in the world. Nowadays it hosts more than 50000 students, a number higher than half of Pisa citizens, which shows the strong impact of this institution over the social, economic and cultural life of the city. Almost 1800 professors work in 20 departments spread in the whole city.
Besides the University of Pisa, the city hosts due public university institutions with special autonomy, i.e., Scuola Normale Superiore and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. These school admit after a tough selection a small number of undergraduate and doctoral students. These students have free meal, lodging, access to libraries and laboratories, but have to pass all examinations quickly and with excellent marks, otherwise they lose the benefits. Scuola Normale Superiore deals with pure sciences and admits students of the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Sciences. Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, whose name derives from a former convent located in the current premises of the university, deals with applied sciences and its students belong either to the Faculty of Experimental Sciences (Engineering, Medicine and Surgery, Agricultural Studies) or to the Faculty of Social Sciences (Law, Economics, Political Sciences).

At the initial waypoint N 43° 42.993' E 010° 23.934' you are in front of the main premises of the University of Pisa, i.e. the Palazzo alla Giornata. Count the number U of letters of the very last word of the plaque beginning with "UNIVERSITA' DEGLI STUDI", and the number V of round decorations (see figure 1) on the façade of the palace.
STAGE 2
Go to waypoint N 43° 43.170' E 010° 24.013'. You stand in front of Palazzo della Carovana, the main premises of Scuola Normale Superiore. Count the number W of bust statues (see figure 2) on the façade of this palace. Look then to the statue of Cosimo I in front of the staircase and concentrate on the plaque on the South-East side of the basement (the side toward the church): the very first word on that plaque is X letters long.
STAGE 3
Move to waypoint N 43° 43.228' E 010° 24.197'. You are in front of the main premises of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. From the square count the number Y of characters (each one riding a wheel) of the statue in the garden behind the fence (please do not enter, otherwise the receptionist could unnecessarily become suspicious).
STAGE 4
Finally go to waypoint N 43° 43.280' E 010° 24.133'. You stand in front of Sant'Anna church, belonging to the convent with the name, now hosting the School. Determine Z from the year 140Z in which Sant'Anna church and convent were built.
