Geocache Description:

The Church of St Mary Magdalene and St Denys, Midhurst.

The church formerly stood within the ground of Midhurst Castle; the castle was dismantled by the Bishop of Durham sometime between 1284 and 1311 after the earlier owners abandoned it in favour of Cowdray in 1280.
Until the reformation, the church was a chapelry to Easebourne Priory and the chaplains were appointed by the Prioress of the Benedictine Nuns.
The interior of the church has undergone much restoration and change and little evidence exists of its medieval heritage. Consisting of chancel and nave flanked by aisles on both sides, the church was largely rebuilt in the Perpendicular style in 1422, towards the end of the reign of Henry V.

If you visit during the spring, look out for the strange toadstools in the graveyard near the church. They are Cedar Cups which are associated with the large cedar tree. Geopora sumneriana, Cedar Cups

Visit the lych gate at the above co-ordinates. The two dates on the plaque are 19AB to 19CD.
Look around the church walls for an Ordnance Survey bench mark. The number on it is S EFGH.
Cross the road to the other part of the churchyard and walk up the path to look for a grave with a pointed headstone (and footstone). When did Anthony Braitsch die? 1JKL. How old was Jane Braitsch? MN years.
The cache is at N50 59.(B-K)(J-D)(L+C) W000 44.((N-H)+E)(F-M)(G+A). A lot of stealth will be required!

If anybody would like to expand this series please do, I would just ask that you could let sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
