1971, Montreux, Genèvesjön. Under en konsert på kasinot i Montreux med Frank Zappa och hans band The Mothers of Invention skickar någon i publiken upp en nödraket vilken sätter eld på kasinots rottingtak. Hela kasinot inklusive bandets utrustning brinner upp.
På plats i Montreux när detta händer är det brittiska hårdrocksbandet Deep Purple som ser röken välla ut över Genèvesjön. Detta blir till låten "Smoke on the Water" vars intro hör till världens mest kända. |
1971, Montreux, Lake Geneva. During a concert at the Montreux Casino with Frank Zappa and his band The Mothers of Invention somebody sends up a distress rocket that hits the rattan roof of the Casino. The roof catches fire and the whole casino, including the bands equipment, goes into ashes.
The hard rock band Deep Purple is at the time staying in Montreux and gets an excellent view of the smoke spreading out over the lake. This experience is turned into the piece "Smoke on the Water", it's intro being one of the worlds most well-known. |
2010, Safjället, Ändis. Under ett besök på Safjället skickar en besökare iväg en fyrverkeriraket som tänder eld på den torra undervegetationen. I stort sett hela Safjället läggs i aska.
På plats är en geocachare som övar basgången i "Smoke on the Water" på en torr grankotte. Geocacharen tar stort intryck av händelsen vilket leder till en cache på geocaching.com.

2010, Safjället, Ändis. During a visit on Safjället a visitor sends off a pyrotechnic rocket, setting the dry vegetation on fire. The entire area goes up in flames.
A geocacher is at the location practicing the base riff in "Smoke on the water" on an empty soda can. This turns into a life changing experience for the geocacher who later commemorates the event as a cache on geocaching.com.

Njaee, kanske inte det där med att Safjället brann ner och det. Och vi vill ju faktiskt inte att det ska bli det heller.
Så låt bli det där med raketer och sånt. Men gör gärna upp en eld - för detta är en perfekt plats för grillning. Bänkar och eldstad finns och ibland även torr, huggen ved i vedupplaget intill. Och utsikt finns över den aningen sjöliknande vattenansamlingen Ändis. Ta med lite grillbart, tänd en brasa, låt det grillbara få den rätta vidbrändråa konsistensen man så hett eftersträvar när man grillar ute i det fria... och titta på röken som ringlar ut över vattnet... |

Well, actually not, not the part where Safjället is demolished and that. And we don´t want it to be true either, do we?
So do leave all your standard carry-along fireworks at home. But feel free to start a fire - this is a perfect spot for a barbecue. There are logs for sitting on and a place for your fire, and sometimes even dry, ready-chopped wood. And a view over the slightly lakeish sort of water gathering named Ändis.
Bring something to barbecue and let it get that nice, slightly cancerogene mix of raw and very well done type of taste that we all long for when barbecuing... and look at the smoke spreading out over the water... |
