Geocache Description:

Happy Birthday Geocaching !

Let's celebrate the first decade of Geocaching on Sunday 2nd May 2010 at the Valley of the Cross in Jerusalem.
Israeli cachers and visitors are welcome!

Weather update: Checking number of weather sites and TV, a rain is expected on the night before the event. It should end by the morning, giving us nice weather for geocaching (Not that some drops should affect a real geocacher...). Hence, there are no changes.
Anyway, bring warm clothes, it is usually cold in Jerusalem evenings.

We will be meeting, at the listed coordinates, for an outdoor party/picnic to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the game of Geocaching on Sunday, May 2nd (Lag Ba'Omer).

Everyone is welcome to attend - Israelis and visitors, veteran cachers and those who just plan to try it, old and young - come and meet others with the same interest.

Schedule

  • From the morning: independent Geocaching activity. 10 new caches will be hidden in the event area. The caches info will be published on Saturday evening. Expect traditional, multi, puzzle and first time in Israel: Letterbox and Wherigo caches!
  • 15:00 Introduction to Geocaching. Experienced geocachers will introduce newcomers to the game.
  • 16:00 CITO event. Geocachers don't forget our commitment to the environment. It's the day after the Lag Ba'omer camp fires and lot of CITO work is needed. Participants will get a "wild card" which will help them to find the final cache and another icon for their caches page.
  • 17:00 THE PARTY - Join the festive event. Meet the people behind the logs and have fun together.

How To Arrive?

By car: From the Begin highway exit in Giv'at Mordechay. After you exit the highway, turn left (east) to Bezalel Bazak st. Continue straight about 600m, until you arrive Yehoshua Yevin st. Drive another 600m and turn left (it's the 1st turn in Yevin st.) to Lilyan way. After 170m, you'll see a parking lot on your right, near a scout building. Park there. Go up the stairs on the right of the building and continue straight, about 100m, until you find us.

By Foot: Take bus 32 from Central bus station (it's on the other side of the road, you have to cross the tunnel). The valley of the cross is after 8 stations, ask for "Emek Hamatsleva". Enter the valley. There are 3 ways: Rostevali to North, Yevin to West and Lilyan to NW. Follow Lilyan Way and continue like the cars.

What to bring?

  • Your GPS receiver or GPS enabled phone. If you still don't have one, you will be able to join other cachers - add a log to look for partners
  • Enough water, hat, sunscreen and pen to sign logs
  • Caches printouts (or be paperless and load into your gadget) - will be published the evening before.
  • If you have Wherigo supporting device, load the event Wherigo cache to your device (will be published with the caches)
  • If you want to try letterboxing, bring a personal logbook and stamp
  • Food for the picnic. Please bring vegetarian kosher food to share with others. You can bring potatoes and onions to prepare in a small campfire.
  • Games (e.g. Frisbee, balls), guitar or everything that help to make fun
  • You can bring chairs, tables, blankets or gas lamp for extra comfort.
  • The most important: bring yourself, your family and your friends

As a bonus for attending this event, everyone will get a new unique icon only for the 10 year anniversary events!
