Celebrating 10 Years of Geocaching!


Saturday 1st May 2010 from 1200 hrs

It all started on 1st May 2000, when President Clinton announced that the scrambling of the satellite navigation system, known as Selective Availability (SA), would be turned off. Everyone would now be able to enjoy greater accuracy of the Global Positioning System (GPS), which would allow geocaching to become what it is today.

The first stash was hidden by Dave Ulmer just outside of Portland, Oregon on 3rd May 2000, and was found the next day. On 30th May 2000, Matt Stum suggested the name geocaching, which our great activity has been known by ever since. Now, 10 years later, geocachers from the UK and around the world are getting together to celebrate this first 10 Years of Geocaching.

There will be hundreds of events held around the world on 1st/2nd May 2010 to bring cachers together for this milestone in Geocaching. We hope you can pop along to ours, say hello to some fellow cachers, both old and new, and help us to celebrate this momentus anniversary together.

Pets and children are welcome, providing they are kept under suitable control.

There will be the usual TB swap. Bring along a TB and take a different one home with you. You can either pre-drop them into the event, or just bring them along on the day!

There is a small garden at the rear and patio area at the front, with some benches and chairs.

The pub opens at 1100 hrs - bar snacks and light meals will be available, and there's no need to pre-order.

Please register by leaving a note on the cache page, including whether you will be eating, just so we can get some idea of the numbers expected to tell the publican.
