Uno splendido giardino di camelie accoglie i visitatori a Locarno, per la festa delle camelie, la più importante rassegna europea del genere e seconda solo alle iniziative promosse in Giappone, terra nativa di questo splendido fiore. Una mostra scientifica al Parco delle Camelie con oltre 300 varietà splendidamente esposte da giardinieri esperti, per mettere in luce una pianta che rappresenta una vera ricchezza del patrimonio botanico presente nei giardini privati e pubblici del Locarnese. La manifestazione è frequentata ogni anno da migliaia di visitatori, tra cui numerosi esperti provenienti da varie località europee, scolaresche e persone amanti di questi splendidi fiori che nella regione del Lago Maggiore hanno trovato il loro habitat ideale. Il programma prevede anche numerosi appuntamenti collaterali, momenti culturali, un mercato di fiori e libri. Non mancate di visitare il Parco botanico del Gambarogno, a Vairano, S. Nazzaro, specializzato nella coltura di camelie e pure la collezione di camelie alle isole di Brissago!
Lo stupendo Parco delle camelie di Locarno è stato inaugurato nel marzo 2005 in occasione del Congresso mondiale dell'International Camellia Society (ICS), svoltosi a Locarno, alla presenza di numerosi congressisti provenienti da tutto il mondo. A cinque anni di distanza dalla sua apertura, il parco è diventato un'attrazione internazionale, sia per il suo alto valore paesaggistico, sia per i suoi preziosi contenuti botanici. Le numerose specie presenti garantiscono di principio un periodo di fioritura sull'arco di nove mesi l'anno. Al momento della sua inaugurazione le camelie messe a dimora erano 500. Il principale artefice di questa realizzazione è il Servizio parchi e giardini di Locarno, che da anni coltiva e moltiplica camelie nel suo vivaio di Locarno Monti. Approfittando delle conoscenze acquisite durante il Congresso dell'ICS e grazie anche alla Società Svizzera della Camelia, i giardinieri della Città hanno potuto ulteriormente arricchire la loro già considerevole collezione, scambiando varietà poco comuni, collaborando con coltivatori provenienti dall'Italia, dalla Germania, dal Belgio, dagli USA e la Cina. Nell'estate del 2007 è stata avviata la seconda fase dei lavori, che ha comportato la realizzazione di alcune strutture chiave e l'ampliamento del parco nell'area più suggestiva, verso il lago. A fianco dell'anfiteatro, costruito con blocchi di granito, che darà modo alle comitive di sedersi nel più bel punto panoramico dell'area, è stata realizzata la più grandeaiuola del parco, dedicata alle specie e alle camelie profumate. Dal suo apice nasce un corso d'acqua, che alimenta un nuovo laghetto, nel quale si specchia un elegante Padiglione. Questo ospita una serie di pannelli informativi sulla camelia. A tutt'oggi,a lavori pressoché ultimati, il parco accoglie 850 varietà di camelie nomenclate, tra cui una quarantina di specie e una decina di ibridi profumate. Da aggiungere 70 camelie ancora da identificare e, piantate sul margine sud del bagno pubblico, 130 camelie doppie per formare una siepe divisoria ma soprattutto per fornire fiori recisi all'annuale esposizione che si svolge in primavera.
Il parco è strutturato scenograficamente in una serie di aiuole formanti una sorta di percorso a labirinto, dove è bello per il visitatore perdersi fra le meraviglie della natura, il canto degli uccelli e il rilassante suono delle onde del lago.

Ein traumhafter Garten empfängt die Besucher in Locarno zum Kamelienfest, der wichtigsten Veranstaltung dieses Genres in Europa. Sie liegt weltweit sogar an zweiter Stelle, gleich hinter einem ähnlichen Event in Japan, dem Ursprungsland der zauberhaften Blüte. Die Veranstaltung umfasst unter anderem eine von Fachgärtnern zusammengestellte, naturwissenschaftliche Ausstellung im Kamelienpark mit über 300 Kamelienarten. Diese rückt eine Pflanze ins Rampenlicht, welche stark zum botanischen Reichtum in den privaten und öffentlichen Gärten des Locarnese beiträgt. Das Kamelienfest verzeichnet jedes Jahr Tausende von Besuchern, darunter Fachleute aus ganz Europa, Schulklassen und Liebhaber dieser bezaubernden Blüten, die in der Region des Lago Maggiore ihr ideales Habitat gefunden haben. Das Programm zeigt auch zahlreiche Rahmenveranstaltungen, kulturelle Momente, ein Blumen- und Büchermarkt.

Der prächtige Kamelienpark in Locarno wurde anlässlich des Kongresses der International Camellia Society in Anwesenheit zahlreicherGäste aus der ganzen Welt im März 2005 eingeweiht. Im Moment der Eröffnung zählte der Park über 500 verschiedene Kamelienarten und -sorten, deren Blütezeit neun Monate abdeckt.
Während der letzten fünf Jahre wurde dieser kleine Fleck enorm vergrössert und zu einem Ort mit großer Bedeutung für alle Kamelienliebhaber, aber auch für jene, die auf der Suche nach ein bisschen Ruhe inmitten der Natur sind. Schöpfer dieses erholsamen Ortes sind vor allem die Gärtner des städtischen Gartenbauamtes, denen es auch dank ihrer bei der Schweizerischen und der internationalen Kameliengesellschaft erworbenen Kenntnisse und dank der Zusammenarbeit mit Spezialisten aus Italien, Deutschland, Belgien, China und den Vereinigten Staaten gelungen ist, zahlreiche auch ungewöhnliche Arten, Hybriden und Sorten zu vermehren und im Park anzusiedeln. 2007 wurde mit Steinen aus dem Maggiatal ein kleines Amphitheater errichtet, das den Besuchern eine willkommene Sitzgelegenheit mit Blick auf den See bietet. Das größte Beet des Parks - jenes mit den duftenden Kamelienarten - umgibt das Amphitheater, an dessen höchstem Punkt ein kleiner Wasserlauf entspringt, der sich in den neu angelegten kleinen See ergiesst. Der Pavillon mit den Informationstafeln über die Kamelien und der neue See tragen dazu bei, einen der wichtigsten Kamelienparks Europas weiter aufzuwerten. Heute, wo die gestalterischen Arbeiten praktisch abgeschlossen sind, beherbergt der Park 850 nomenklatorisch erfasste Kamelienvarietäten, darunter etwa vierzig Arten und zehn duftende Hybriden. 70 Kamelien müssen noch identifiziert werden. Am Südrand des öffentichen Strandbades stehen zudem 130 doppelte Kamelien, die als Trennhecke dienen, aber auch Schnittblumen für die jährliche Ausstellung im Frühling liefern. Der Park ist in eine Vielzahl von Beeten aufgeteilt und so gestaltet, dass er eine Art Labyrinth bildet, in welchem sich die Besucher zwischen den blühenden Pflanzen bewegen und in der prächtigen Natur, im Gesang der Vögel und dem Rauschen der Wellen des Sees verlieren können.

The stunning Camellia Park was inaugurated in Locarno in 2005 on the occasion of the International Camellia Society World Congress (ICS), which was attended by participants from all over the world. During the five years since its opening the park has become an international attraction, thanks both to its landscape value and to its precious botanical features. At the time of the inauguration 500 camellias were planted and the vast number of species present guarantees, in principle, a flowering period of 9 months. The Parks and Gardens Service is mainly responsible for planting and maintenance of the park and cultivates and propagates camellias in its nurseries at Locarno Monti. With the help of knowledge acquired during the ICS Congress and thanks to the Swiss Camellia Society, the Town Council gardeners have been able to further enlarge their already considerable collection, exchanging rare species and collaborating with growers from Italy, Germany, Belgium, the USA and China. The second stage of the works was initiated in 2007 and comprised the creation of several key structures and the extension of the park towards the more scenic area near the lake. The largest flowerbed of the park, dedicated to perfumed species and camellias, has been created next to the amphitheatre, which will enable visitors to sit in the most panoramic point of the area. From the top a small stream runs down to feed the new pond, whose waters reflect an elegant pavilion. The latter houses a series of information panels on camellias. Today, with the work almost finished, the Park is home to 850 varieties of catalogued camellias including about forty different species and ten perfumed hybrids. In addition to these, there are 70 as yet unidentified camellias, planted at the southern extremity of the public baths and 130 double camellias, which form a dividing hedge and are used mainly to provide cut flowers for the annual show held in spring. The structure of the Park is that of a series of beds forming a kind of labyrinthine trail where visitors can happily stroll among these wonders of nature lulled by the relaxing sound of birdsong and waves lapping on the shore of the lake. A beautiful camellia garden welcomes visitors to Locarno, with the Festa delle Camelie, the pre-eminent event of its type in Europe, and second only in importance to the exhibitions in Japan, the home of this beautiful flower. The event at Parco delle Camelie, with more than 300 species, beautifully displayed by expert gardeners, honours the science behind the plant, which represents a real treasure in the botanic heritage of the private and public gardens of the Locarno area. Thousands of visitors attend annually: among them, many experts from different European areas, schools and fans of these beautiful flowers which have found an ideal habitat in the Lake Maggiore region. The exhibition also features many other side-events and cultural attractions, and of course, a rich market of flowers and books.
