Located in the area of the Okergranite the "Hexenküche" is one of many rock formations.
The Okergranite is, according to the latest research, a self-cointained plutonic rock (A pluton in geology is an intrusive igneous rock body that crystallized from magma slowly cooling below the surface of the Earth) instead of being the the westernmost part of the Brockengranitemassif. The northern half of the Harz is through the „Harznordrandstörung ( northern disorder of the Harz Area) cut off and sunken down. It lays now under the accumulation of the „
lower_harz chalkstone basin“ in the area near Oker.

The variaties of stones reach from high-silica granites found near the brim to low-silica granites in the center of the Okerintrusion (An intrusion is liquid rock that forms under the surface of the earth). The Okergranite is, in his main body, a medium- and coarse-graind granite, which consists of orthoclase- (KalSi3O8) and oligoclase- feldspar (NaAlSi3O8), quartz (SiO2), biotite and chlorite.
In small fractions can be found magnetite (Fe3O4), apatite (Cas5((F,Cl,OH)/PO4)), zircon (Zr(SiO4), tourmaline (Ca,Na,Al,Fe-Silikat), rutile (TiO2) and epidote (Ca,Fe,Al-silicate). Through the heat of the granitic melt (approx. 700 Degrees Celsius / 1292 Degrees Fahrenheit / 973 Degrees Kelvin) the enclosure of the devonian and carboniferius sedimentary rock is converted to hornfels and its varieties. This very hard and tough, trough thermal transformation changed roof of the Okergranite resists the alteration. This is the reason why the roof the Okergranite is as far as possible preserved. On the other hand the alteration could engage the denuded granite. This granite is fragmented to local fields of rocks, sand-like material (detritus) or it is transformed into bizarre rockformations with apparition of dissolution.
At the given coordinates you will find the so called „Hexenküche“ (meaning witchens' kitchen).
The „Hexenküche“ is a formation where you can spot the typicall dissolution very good.

During the christianisation of the heathen saxonians through Charlemagne, their druids are forced to withdraw deep in the woods of the Harzmountains to celebrate the divine service to their gods. Some of these bizarre rock formations where used as an altaire. On top of some rocks sacrificial stone basins where found. The assignment of these basins is cloudy. On top of the „Hexenküche“ a stone basin was found in the late 19th century by Kantor Schucht, a chronoligist who lived in Oker during the late 19th century.
I do not recommend to climb on top of the „Hexenküche“ without the right knowledge and equipment.

Die Hexenküche ist eine der zahlreichen Klippenbildungen im Bereich des Okergranites.
Nach neueren Forschungen ist dieser nicht der westlichste Teil des Brockengranitmassives, sondern er stellt einen in sich geschlossenen Plutonkörper (Pluton: aus Gesteinsschmelze in der Erdkruste erstarrtes Gestein) dar. Durch die Harznordrandstörung ist die nördlichste Hälfte abgeschnitten und abgesunken. Sie liegt heute unter den Ablagerungen der „
Unterharzer Kreidemulde“ im Harzvorland nördlich von Oker.
Ein weiterer Earthcache dazu ist der „
GC1QN1J / Die Harzrandstörung am Langenberg" von Largosss.
Die Gesteinsvariäten reichen von randlichen, sauren (kieselsäurereichen) Graniten bis zu den mehr basischen (kieselsäurearmen) Gliedern im Kern der Okerintrusion (Intrusion = in die Erdrinde eindringendes und dort erstarrendes glutflüssiges Gestein). In seiner Hauptmasse ist der Okergranit ein mittel- bis grobkörniger Granit, der aus Orthoklas- (KalSi3O8) und Oligoklasfeldspäten (NaAlSi3O8), Quarz (SiO2) und untergeordnet Biotit und Chlorit besteht.
In kleinen Anteilen gesellen sich noch besonders Magnetit (Fe3O4), Apatit (Cas5((F,Cl,OH)/PO4)), Zirkon (Zr(SiO4), Turmalin (Ca,Na,Al,Fe-Silikat), Rutil (TiO2) und Epidot (Ca,Fe,Al-Silikat) hinzu. Durch die Hitze der granitischen Schmelzen (ca. 700 Grad Celsius) sind die umhüllenden Sedimentgesteine des Devons und Karbons zu Hornfelsen, Kalksilikathornfelsen usw. umgewandelt worden (Kontakgesteine). Das sehr harte und zähe, kontaktmetamorph (thermische Umwandlung) veränderte Dach des Okergranits widersteht der Verwitterung und ist deshalb noch weitgehend erhalten geblieben. Am bloßgelegten Granit hingegen konnten die Verwitterungseinflüsse verstärkt angreifen. Der Granit wurde örtlich zu Blockfeldern sowie zu sandartigen Massen zerlegt („Granitgrus“), oder es wurden bizarre Felsformen mit den Erscheinungen der „Wollsackverwitterung“ herausmodelliert.
An den genannten Kos steht ihr vor der Hexenküche, an welcher sich auch das Schild aus dem Spoiler befindet.
Die Hexenküche ist eine Felsformation an der die typische Wollsackverwitterung sehr gut zu sehen ist.
Um diesen Earthcache als gefunden zu loggen, beantwortet mir folgende Fragen und absolviert folgende kleine Aufgaben. Ihr braucht auf eine Logfreigabe nicht warten, wenn etwas mit euren Antworten nicht stimmt melde ich mich bei euch.

Zum Schluß noch einige Randinformation zur Hexenküche.
Zur Zeit der Sachsentaufe durch Karl dem Großen waren die heidnischen Druiden gezwungen sich in die tiefen Wälder des Harzes zurückzuziehen. Dort konnten Sie ungestört durch die Obrigkeit ihrem alten Glauben nachgehen. Einige dieser Gesteinsformationen wurden als natürliche Altäre genutzt. Auf einigen wurden in Stein gehauene Opferschalen gefunden. Die Verwendung dieser Schalen ist nicht sicher geklärt. Der Chronist Kantor Schucht berichtet in seiner Okeraner Chronik von der Besteigung der Hexenküche und des Fundes der Opferschale auf dem Gipfel der Formation.
Von einem Besteigen der Hexenküche ohne das nötige Wissen und Ausrüstung rate ich ab.
Auf dem folgenden Foto ist die Opferschale deutlich zu sehen. Ein Freund von mir schoß es, nachdem er auf den Gipfel geklettert ist.
