Dreisesselfels - Naturschutzgebiet "Hochwald"
Das Gebiet rund um den Dreisessel und den Hochstein wurde bereits in den 1930er Jahren als Naturschutzgebiet ausgewiesen.
Inzwischen zählt das Gebiet als Flora-Fauna-Habitat "Nature 2000" zum europäischen Schutzgebietenetzwerk. So ergibt sich dort ein über die Grenzen von Tschechien, Österreich und Deutschland reichendes zusammenhängendes Schutzgebiet.
Über ein gut ausgebautes Wanderwegenetz kann diese Region erwandert werden ohne die Lebensräume der dortigen Tierwelt zubeeinträchtigen.
Rund um den Dreisesselfels finden sich markante Felsformationen und bilden auf 90.000 m² das sogenannte "Steinerne Meer".
Ein geologisches Schaufenster in das Eiszeitalter.
An mehreren Hinweistafeln erfährt der Wanderer wie durch die Verwitterung aus dem massiven Granitgestein die heute zu sehende zerklüftete Landschaft entstanden ist.
Das Schutzgebiet ist außerdem ein Rückzugsgebiet für die selten gewordenen Auerhüher.

English Description:
Alteration at the Dreisessel.
In an area over more 90,000 m² wind, rain and the impact of the last glacial period forms a giant "stony ocean" in german called "Steinernes Meer".
Here you can find an alteration which is typical for the granitic rock at the Dreisessel.
This alteration ist forced by physical and chemical processes mainly in the last glacial period by damage due to frozen and melting water. Typicaly for this type of alteration are the round edges of the rock what makes the rocks looking like a pillow.
During this process and over many years the massive granit rock forms an "ocean" of smaller and bigger rocks which are widely spreaded at this spot.
The nature preserve area around the Dreisessel called "Hochwald" was founded in the 1930er years.
In the last years this area become a part of the european network of preserve ares as the socalled "Flora-Fauna-Habitat Nature 2000". It forms a self contained area across the borders of Germany, Austria and the Czech Republik.
Well developed hiking paths guides you through this very nice region. At some informationpoints you can find many facts about the preserve area and the geological background.
