St. John The Evangelist, Hinton Martel
Hinton Martell is one of the many villages in England where the Ecclesiastical name differs from the local government name the name of the church is spelt with only one L.
Hinton Martell has a mixture of old thatched cottages, farmyards converted into housing and modern buildings, with the church standing next to the old village school.
The present structure replaced a much earlier version and was built in 1870 to a design by G. R. Crickmay
The church has a splendid decorated wagon roof to the chancel and some superbly executed corbels by sculptors Boulton and Weaver. The Purbeck stone font is 13 Century. There are also some magnificent 19th stained glass windows
These bells are hung anti-clockwise and are UNRINGABLE
