Lanner Church was originally opened in 1840 as a chapel of Ease following the creation of the parish of Lanner out of the original parish of Gwennap.
With the village of Lanner growing due to the mining, a more local church was needed instead of the 2 mile walk to either Gwennap or Redruth. The Church was consecrated as a full church on St Swithin's Day, 15th July 1845. It is a small stuccoed building consisting of - a Chancel, Nave, South Isle, Vestry, Porch and a Turret containing one bell.
It was thought that a church of simple structure would attract the poorer working class people of the village, and they wouldn't feel as intimidated as going to a much grander church such as Gwennap, St Day or Redruth.
The architect was George Whitewick (1802 - 1872) of Plymouth.
The 2 large crosses inside the main gate are thought to have belonged to a chapel on "Chapel Hill" from many years before.
"If anybody would like to expand on this series please do. I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication"
