Geocache Description:

Mississippi's first microcache. Sorry for getting it started! As of 2-6-23. it is the 7th oldest active geocache in Mississippi.

Now that Little Brown Bottle is over 20 years old, lasting far longer than I ever could've imaginied, here's a little background story of how it came to be: In 2001, I was reading an article in I believe Time Magazine at lunch about this newest activity called geocaching. My thoughts on their explanation could be summed up in one word: "Nerds!"

A few days later, our state office sent me a GPS to use to map out wastewater problems in the county as part of a pilot project. In typical government fashion, they sent it to me with zero instructions. I was online trying to figure out first of all "how do you even turn this contraption ON?" and there's this link on the page - that geocaching thing again! I visited the site and read in more detail about it and decided "this is the single most geekiest thing I have ever heard of. Nobody actually does this." So to prove my point, I hid Little Brown Bottle right outside my office. Uh, I guess I was wrong. There have been over 500 finds so far.

LBB has done a lot of evolving since its inception. Believe it or not, Little Brown Bottle originally was indeed a little brown bottle.....a little brown GLASS bottle. Yeah, that turned out to not be such a good idea.  It started out in between a sign and signpost held in place by a bolt and wingnut. Over the next few years it went through a few variations and containers but always at the same coordinates. When I transferred away in 2004, I almost archived LBB but decided to let it ride since it is one of the oldest caches in the state. In most cases I don't know who, but local cachers have been very good over the years at checking on it and maintaining it as needed, including one time when the sign itself was removed and replaced with another. The current hide technique was done in 2023.

At the time LBB was placed, all the employees knew about it. I would imagine they're just about all gone by now, but a few recent cachers have indicated that when they get spotted by workers, they don't pay them any mind. I dunno - maybe LBB is covered in employee orientation! If the area is ever renovated or the cache needs to be moved, it will probably relocated a few yards down close to the road.

The container is a brown bison tube. It is semi-concealed. Getting to this one is easy - you can drive up to it. Okay, you MIGHT have to get out of the car to actually retrieve it.

Decoding the spoiler message WILL make it waaaay too easy.
