Agios Ioannis is situated at the end of the road that starts
from Chora Sfakion and winds up in the mountains passing through
the villages of Anopolis and Aradena with its metal bridge.
Recommended parking place at N 35 13.716 E
024 01.268, at an altitude of 780 m.
From there you walk down the asphalt road towards the south and
after a few meters, you find the beginning of the footpath. It is
well marked with red/white and red marks all along and it takes
about one hour to reach the “balcony”, where the cache
is hidden. If it’s summertime, don’t forget your
sunscreen, a hat and some water, as the sun can be really hot.
In case you plan to continue your hike for 2½ more hours, the
the trail gets steep as it winds down to the beach and to the small
Byzantine church of Agios Pavlos (=St Paul), who is believed to
have set foot in Europe for the first time at this beach. The trail
continues to the west until it reaches Agia Roumeli and the exit of
Samaria Gorge in 2 further hours.
The cache is a preformed bottle with a logbook. Bring your own pen!
Please hide it well again and in the very same spot.
There is the option to connect this cache to GC242QT Agios Ioannis
Balcony. You can see the hike here: Agios
Ioannis and the two balconies at EveryTrail
