Geocache Description:

This is #2 in a series of Northwest Cabin Caches. Located in the Hell's Canyon National Recreation Area, this cache is all about getting there, as it will require a raft, jet boat, or LONG hike (or some combination).

This cache is located at the historic Temperance Creek Ranch in Hell's Canyon on the Oregon side. At the time of the cache's placement, the ranch was being leased from the USFS by an outfitter named Hell's Canyon Packers, and was occupied year-round. However, all but the modern house and bunk/bathhouses are considered open to the public.

This cache can be reached by taking a jet boat or raft to the ranch and making the short hike up the hill, OR by crossing the Snake River at Pittsburg landing in some sort of craft and hiking about 10 miles upstream on the Oregon side (as the cache owner did), OR by decending into the canyon from the rim on the Oregon side (a grueling round-trip).

In order to prevent any DNF's after such a long trip, here is a detailed description of how to find it:

Your GPS should lead you to an old, unused cabin near the creek. The cache is placed just inside the logs on the Northwest corner of the structure. It is easier to access from the outside, and I actually would NOT reccommend going inside.

Initial contents are pencil, log, Idaho Fish and Game Survival Guide, $2 bill, and a "Backpacking the World" geopatch.

GOOD LUCK!!
