George "Shavey" Noyes was born in Norway on 08/30/1863. Shavey dropped out of school early and spent a lot of his childhood with his grandfather in Fryeburg. He was most at home in the wilderness of Western Maine. He was friends with George Howe and helped with George's Adventure Club. He was also an avid mineralogist and worked the Noyes mountain mine. He uncovered some unique minerals. He bought the mine in 1890 and later it was sold to Hazel Perham and is known today as the Harvard Quarry. He also developed his talent as an artist and in the 1920's his ink sketches were exhibited in New York city. He died in 1945.
