Geocache Description:

Cache is located in Roberts Farm Preserve on the Roberts Road off Rt.117/118 by Norway lake. The preserve is 165 acres of well marked trails dedicated to non motorized activities such as hiking, biking, skiing, and snowshoeing. Some trails are dog friendly. See kiosk for trail map and uses. Parking is at N44.12.564, W070.34.199.

George Howe was born on 08/04/1860 in Sumner, ME. He went to Norway High school and upon graduating, attended Tufts University, earning a degree in mineralogy and naturalism. He later moved to Denmark ME, where he successfully searched for amethyst. He then moved back to Norway and found more amethyst. He collected about $150,000 worth. He also started The Adventure Club, similar to the Boy Scouts. They did activities such as rock collecting and talking about nature. He also taught geology in local summer camps. In 1930, a museum was opened and dedicated in his name. He died on 2/6/1950.
