Cache is located in the Roberts Farm Preserve on the Roberts Road, off Rt.117/118 by Norway lake. This is a 165 acre preserve with numerous well marked trails dedicated to non motorized activities such as hiking, biking, skiing, and snowshoeing. Some trails are dog friendly. See kiosk for trail map and uses. Parking is at N44.12.564, W070.34.199
Mellie Dunham was born in 1853 in Norway, ME. When he was 12 years old, he traded some window frames for a pair of old fashioned snowshoes and filled them with rawhide. He began his own snowshoe business and his first employee was Walter Tubbs who later began a factory for hand crafted snowshoes which made Norway the snowshoe capital of the world. Mellie was also an accomplished fiddle player and attracted the attention of Henry Ford after winning a fiddle contest. He started playing for Mr. Ford and wrote several pieces of music. He died 09/27/1931.
