Geocache Description:

On the banks of the Georges River, at Casula.

Please note that a new access road (Casula Powerhouse Rd) will be opened to the Powerhouse from 15/9/'12, the road starts at Shepherd St, Liverpool. The level crossing at Casula station will be closed from 15/10/'12, although access is still available by foot over the Casula station bridge.

After the end of WW2, Australia was experiencing an economic boom, and there was a shortage of electric power. In an attempt to fill that gap on a short term basis, small power stations such as this one were built around our major cities during the late 40s and early 50s
In the 70s, the plant was decommissioned and after years of neglect, and vandalism , the local council bought the site in 1976, and it was slowly tranformed into an arts centre.
It now has seven galleries, and a 326 seat theatre.
In the 80s and 90s it also housed a number of community orgasnisations, including the Reverse Garbage Truck.
The old storage oil tanks at the site are now a legal graffiti wall.
The cache is at some of the original infrastructure still on site.
