Nitida sits atop the hill at the west
end of the Durbanville Wine Valley. It is an award winning boutique
winery specialising in a range of hand made wines. The farm is
named after the Protea Nitida (or, in Afrikaans, the
waboom) which grows amongst the endangered West Coast Renosterveld
vegetation on the hill. The farm has been owned and run by
winemaker Bernhard Veller & family for the past 20 years, with
the help of Klaas and the trusty tractor,
Pufford.
Also
on the property are a Montessori school, a function venue, a mini
MTB trail (the Vellerdrome) and a restaurant. A Farmer's Market is
held on the last Saturday of every month.
Update 9-11-10: A new family friendly
restaurant called "Tables" has opened on the farm just below the
cache site. It's being run by the folk who used to have "Gallery
Cafe" at Rust-en-Vrede in Durbanville.
The
cache is in the garden near the wine tasting room. It's possible to
park very near to the cache and it's accessible Mon-Sun from 08h00
to 17h00. For security reasons, please do not attempt the cache
outside of these hours, or if the gates on the road to the cellar
are closed.
