This is a series of 11 caches hidden along a looped walk called The Carron Loop in the Burren region of County Clare. This looped walk is part of the network of National Looped Walks. The route is waymarked using the purple National Looped Walk directional arrows. These waymarkers are clearly displayed on standing stones and are easy to follow.
The series includes nacro (between NA-no and mi-CRO) and PET preform containers so please don't forget to bring your own pen. There is also a bonus multi-cache "Carron Loop - Bonus", the clues for which are to be found along the loop.
The loop is approximately 10km, with an elevation change of 100m. It should take approximately 4 hours plus any time you want to spend for lunch or taking photos on the route. The ratings for each cache are individual ratings based on the easiest route possible to the cache. The overall difficulty/terrain rating for the looped walk is 3.5/3.5 based on having to complete the entire looped walk and find all 11 caches. The terrain is a mixture of minor roads, animal tracks and green lanes. Please follow all instructions on waymark stones along the route and watch for livestock. Never assume that moss has rock beneath it - there are many grikes in the limestone. The usual gear applies - sturdy walking boots, waterproofs, rucksack, fluid, snacks, mobile phone.
Please respect the Burren Code, see image in gallery. There is no need to cross dry stone walls - all crossings are via the waymarked stiles for which you will also find co-ordinates in the relevant cache pages.
The trail parking is at Cassidy’s Pub in Carron village. From the parking follow your GPSr and the purple waymark arrows through the village to the "Carron Loop - Trailhead" waypoint. The cache is a PET preform container. While here don't forget to collect the clue for the bonus cache before moving on to Carron Loop #1 - Templecronin Church.
