Stari grad nad Smlednikom Traditional Geocache

Grad Smlednik (tudi Stari grad nad Smlednikom) je bil grad, ki je stal na vzpetini. Do njega se povzpnete v približno 30 min. prijetnega sprehoda. Najbolje je parkirati spodaj, sicer pa cesta pelje tudi do vrha. Danes so vidne le ruševine gradu.
Prvi lastnik gradu naj bi bil vitez Ulrih (Wdalricus de Fledinich) leta 1136. Prvotni grad je bil samostojen obrambni stolp (bergfried) z obrambnim jarkom, zgrajen v romanskem slogu. Po potresu leta 1511 so stolpu dozidali bivalne prostore in zunanje obzidje z obrambnimi stolpice v renesancnem slogu. Grad so obnavljali do leta 1610 in je lep primer razvoja srednjeveškega gradu v osrednji Sloveniji. V Valvasorjevi Slavi vojvodine kranjske je omenjen kot grad Flednigg. O njem je napisal pesem tudi Simon Jenko. Ob poti na grad je 14 rokokojskih kapelic Križevega pota, ki se zakljuci s kompozicijo treh križev. Kalvarija je bila zgrajena leta 1772 v povezavi s posestjo gradu Valburga. (Obnovljena je bila dvakrat, leta 1872 in leta 1992, dograjena pa leta 2001. Danes je ob gradu manjša okrepcevalnica.

Grad Smlednik (also called Stari grad nad Smlednikom) was a castle, that stood on a hill. You get there in about 30 minutes of a nice walk on a forest road. The best place to park your car is at the begging of the forest road under the hill, but you can also folow the road with your car and reach the top faster. Today only ruins of the historical castle are visible. The first owner of the castle was knight Ulrih (Wdalricus de Fledinich) in year 1136. Primary castle was a selfstanding defence tower (bergfried) built in roman style. After the earthquake in 1511, they added living places and outer walls with defending towers in renesance style. Castle was renovated till 1610 and is a nice example of a evolution of a middle age castle in middle Slovenia. A song has been written about it (Simon Jenko). By the road to the castle there are 14 rokoko chapels of the "Križev pot", that ends with a composition of three crosses. It was built in 1772 in connection with castle Valburg. Today, you can find a bar by the castle. If you are going geocaching in the winter, don't forget your sleds, because the ride is down the hill is awesome!
