Geocache Description:

WE DID IT AGAIN
GEO JAMBOREE 8 - WAS HERE!

BY POPULAR DEMAND, WE RETURNED TO THE SHORES OF LAKE ZOAR FOR THIS TWO-DAY EVENT IN WESTERN CONNECTICUT.
OUT OF AREA AND OUT OF STATE CACHERS WERE WELCOME !

AS ALWAYS, WE STRIVE TO GET BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER
JUNE 12-13, 2010
GREAT NEWS !!!
State Park Fees have been reduced - The fight has worked!
See below
Rain on June 12 will move events to June 13

Located in Kettletown State Park, this event is sure to be the biggest ever seen in this area. Bring your canoe or kayak and search for water caches or cross the river and search for caches in Paugussett State Park. There are also caches in nearby Southford Falls State Park, just up the road.

As always, campsites were sold out. However, our fight with the Governor and State Representative to get that changed worked and prices were reduced thanks to all of you and others across the state..
Click here to see the map of the sites compiled by Trix606

You do not have to pay a parking fee if you have a campsite reservation!
Camping fee - $17 per site/night for CT residents - $27 per site/night for non CT residents
Park Entrance Fee (Weekends Only) $9 for CT residents - $15 for non CT residents.

Stay the night in any of the wooded campsites and search for special "Night Caches" (flashlight required) These were a great hit in past years and there should be some really good ones this year. Join with other camping geocachers for campfire comradery.

Bring what you can to share, we will have grills going for your use.
<<p>RAFFLE - GREAT PRIZES
GARMIN Oregon 450t - This could be YOURS !

GREAT CAMPING, GREAT LOCATION, CANOEING

AGAIN THIS YEAR !
MASSIVE BREAKFAST to be served to all on Sunday morning at Site #10 by CT A-Team with Bright Parrot bringing his fantastic gormet coffee machine.
Saturday you are on your own. Sorry, there is too much to do. However, Bright Parot will have his coffee pot going for all visitors in Site #2 on Friday and Sat. mornings.
TEAM SIGN CONTEST. Show your team pride. Make a sign for your campsite to let us know who you are, Awards given. (see sign rules below)
FEE STRUCTURE: Pay only to help defray the cost of the event (Adults $3, Kids under 12 $1)
Event fee is for TEAMS logging the event - not per person attending.
Coins, patches, ammo boxes, raffle tickets, etc. will be sold at the Jamboree store.

Please visit this link for links to HOTEL RESERVATIONS close by for those of you who don't want to camp. Special offer for Geocachers - $99 per night, pets allowed.

NO CACHER LEFT BEHIND

WATER TAXI SERVICE Want to look for water caches but have no boat? Here's your chance. Again "Son of a Beach" will be offering power boat services throughout the weekend. But he needs others to offer boats to help out. Fuel donations are greatly appreciated but not required. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

CANOE/KAYAK INSTRUCTION "Sam the SoccerDog" and others will be offering canoe/kayak lessons and loaners again this year for those of you who want to search for them yourselves. A great chance to try a new sport. In order to make this work we will need some of you to offer your skills and watercraft when you can.

"Leave No Trace" returned to the jamboree and put on their presentations with prizes and games for all. Although most of us are very conscious of our environment, we occassionally encounter evidence of those who are not. Leave No Trace promotes awareness of our impact on the environment in many areas that we may not have thought of.

NEW THIS YEAR

TWO JAMBOREE SITES instead of just one. The site we used last year will be reserved for parking. This should give everyone ample room without parking on the road (Rangers don't appreciate that). The Jamboree itself will be in the rear site just behind last year's site. More room, more open space for games. And yes, we WILL allow the ice cream truck to pull in the back to our site!

TWITTER We have an expanded Twitter presence this year, anyone can follow Geo Jamboree Twitter.
Like last year, we'll use the hashtag #gj8 for Geo Jamboree 8 discussions. Then anyone can bookmark http://search.twitter.com/search?q=+%23gj8 to read current happenings! Thanks Rjferret for setting this up

TIME CAPSULE OPENED This Time Capsule, set back in 2005 at Geo Jamboree 3 was opened this year at the main event right after lunch.

First of all... Thanks to everyone involved. What a great time we had. Despite storms from above and storm troopers from the park, we managed to pull off another great event. We are what we are and no-one can spoil that. I'm sure lots of letter will be fired off to those in charge of the park, but let us all keep that to a forum post and not here.

TOTALS: PEOPLE = 282, TEAMS = 153

Next year's event will be held at Housatonic Meadows State Park on June 18, 2011.
Campsites are already filling up.
See
this forum for discussions on the event.
SEE YOU ALL THERE !
