Downham Loop 1 - A Muddy Start Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Kitty!!: I visited the series today with a view to replacing a couple of caches and moving a couple. However, I have decided to completely revamp the series for publication at an event early 2014. As the paths are so muddy at present there seems little point in moving caches only to archive them in a few months.

Thank you to everyone who has found the caches and for all the lovely feedback. I hope you will enjoy the revised trail next spring.

Geocache Description:

The Kitties were "forced" to take a day off work/school in the January 2010 snow - taking the opportunity to use local footpaths and go sledging in Downham . We thought our circular trip would make an ideal caching series - particularly as it starts and finishes with a child friendly pub!!

This is the first in a series of 8 caches (6 traditional and 2 bonus caches) forming a "circular" walk. The whole route is along public footpaths and bridleways - all caches are hidden on public footpaths - no need to divert to find them. There is only 1 (very short) stretch on a road - where you can walk on the grass verge.

Along the way you will pass a church micro GC1HX2T and also Ramsden Ring 3 (micro up a tree) GC1DCEF.

When we set the series there was no livestock in any of the fields - however, we suspect that this will not always be the case. Best be prepared to put dogs on leads if you encounter any. (Since the series went live I've heard there are cows between cache 1 and 2!)

The walk should take around 1.15-1.30 hours - we hope you enjoy it.

Parking

Convenient roadside parking for the series is in a side road opposite the starting point. The area is very busy at school drop off (8.50 am) and pick up (3.15 pm) so suggest you avoid these times. The White Horse Public House also has a large car park but this gets very busy.

This first cache is a magnetic micro to start you off or find as a cache and dash. At the time of setting the location was a "tad" muddy due to a blocked and overflowing ditch. Although this mud needs to be negotiated to start the series, Ive moved the cache a few feet so you dont need to stand in it whilst you search! Hopefully the bog will dry out soon!
