Nederlands: U bevindt zich hier in de poort van de Karolingische Burg. Deze vroeg-middeleeuwse ringwalburcht (in Zeeland spreekt men over 'burg') is de best bewaard gebleven burg in Zeeland. Deze burg had tot doel de plaatselijke bevolking bescherming te bieden tegen de plundertochten van de Noormannen / Vikingen.
Archeologisch onderzoek heeft uitgewezen dat de Karolingische Burg te Oost-Souburg uit het laatste kwart van de 9e eeuw dateert. Deze burg is, in tegenstelling tot de andere burgen in Zeeland, nooit opgenomen in de latere bebouwing. Het is eeuwenlang als land- en tuinbouwgrond gebruikt.
Op coordinaat N51°27.808 E3°36.208 vind je een informatiebord. Hoe deze earth cache te loggen.
1. Neem een foto van een teamlid bij het informatiebord met een gps in de hand en plaats deze in de log.
2. Beantwoord de volgende vragen:
A: Waarom werden de paden in de burcht voorzien van houten planken?
B: In welk jaar werden de wal, de paden en de poort van deze oude versterking gereconstrueerd, en door wie? (Een leuke toevoeging: onze (schoon)vader zat in het comité dat de aanzet tot het herstel van de burg gaf!)
C: Noem vier plaatsen in Zeeland waar in dezelfde tijd ook ronde burchten zijn aangelegd
Mail ons de juiste antwoorden. We zullen zo spoedig mogenlijk antwoord geven: bij goedkeuring en met een juiste foto bij de log mag gelogd worden (logs met verkeerde foto of zonder juiste antwoorden en/of goedkeuring worden verwijderd).
NB: Deze cache werd mede mogelijk gemaakt door toestemming van de gemeente Vlissingen en door het meedenken van de 'Karolingers' van de stichting Karolingische Burg.

English: You are now standing in the entrance gate of the Karolingische Burg. This early medieval ringwalburcht (in Zeeland the people speak about 'burg') is the best preserved citadel in Zeeland. This burg was intended to protect the local population against the depredations of the Vikings.
Archaeological research has shown that the Karolingische Burg in Oost-Souburg dates from the last quarter of the 9th century. This burg in contrast to the other ones in Zeeland, have never been integrated in the later buildingplans. It has been used as agricultural and horticultural land uses for centuries.
You'll find a billboard with information on it on the following coordinates: N51°27.808 E3°36.208
How to log this earth cache.
1. Take a picture from a teammember with a gps in one hand at the infoboard and attach it to your log
2. Please answer the following questions:
A: What was the reason for providing the paths in the citadel with wooden beams?
B: In which year was it that the rampart, the paths and the entrance gate of this old strengthening were reconstructed and by whom? (Nice additional information: our father (in law) was part of the commission which initiated the convalescence of this citadel)
C: Mention four places in Zeeland where, in the same time, also round citadels were built
