Geocache Description:

The Similan Islands in Thailand is a is a group of islands in the
Andaman Sea outside the city of Khao Lak. It is a national park
which was established in 1982.

The park is the archipelago consisting of nine islands which are Ko
Bon, Ko Bayu, Ko Similan, Ko Payu, Ko Miang (two adjoining
islands), Ko Payan, Ko Payang, and Ko Huyong. Islands 1, 2 and 3
are closed for public due to turtle hatching protection program.
The cache is placed on island number 8 Ko Similans's north side
were you can find the popular stone formations used in most of the
promotion materials for the islands.

The islands consist of granite, they were formed in the Tertiary
period (about 65 million years ago) by rising lava. Their present
form they have received through the action of ice-age glaciers, and
the forces of the sea. The islands have some high and steep
mountains, from medium-muscovite-biotite granite and
biotite-hornblende granite exist. The highest elevation is 244
meters. The sea floor between the islands is deep on average 60 to
80 meters, the increase to the beaches varies depending on the
direction: the west of the rocky islands to the ocean, very steep
and precipitous with rocks and caves, in the direction of the
mainland in the east with flatter slopes to large coral gardens and
sand banks.

I appreciate that you to take a picure of yourself and
your GPS visible on the top of the cliff where the coordinates are
correct. There are several ways up, askt the National Park Rangers
(at the beach) for the best way up as it contains lots of cracks
and dangerous paths. Remember that this is a National Park, do not
remove anything and do not litter. Bring water on the climb as it
can become very hot on the way. Use shoes, some stones are
sharp!!!! You also need to answer the following questions.

1. The large stone on the top is round with a pointing end. In what
direction doest it point?

2. Two forces of nature as created these remarkable rock and stone
formations. What are they?

3. In the lagoon on the way to the beach you will se a famous rock on the left side named after a cartoon, what is the name of the rock?

Send me the correct answers in a message and I will reply if your answers are wrong.
OK to log and upload the picture directly. Faulty loggs will be
removed.
