This cache is called "GoNZo" because I am a huge fan of the author Hunter S. Thompson. He was an iconic American journalist who had the rare talent to express his views on current affairs in a way that cut through all the fluff, to get right to the meat of whatever may have been rambling through his beautifully deranged mind at the time and, inevitably, without fail, related it to his lifelong obsession with the Death of the American Dream. His writing was frightening in its honesty and foresight and he immersed himself in his stories to the extent that he actually became a part of the story, living in the moment and for the moment, and this is the essence of "Gonzo Journalism", a term that was coined for the Good Doctor himself.
We spent some time creating a really cool log book and have provided a space for each finder to write down their favorite HST quote. No worries if you don't know who he is or know any quotes, but feel free to leave your favorite quote/saying/mantra anyway and be sure to give proper credit to who said it.
GoNZo is located in the Bull Creek greenbelt and trail head and parking coordinates are: N 30 22.124, W 097 46.853. This is a seldom used unmarked trail that is mainly traversed by mountain bikers. The cache is about a 12-15 minute hike into the trail, but much quicker if you're on a MTB and is filled with lots of goodies. FTF prize is a slinky.
This is one of our first hides and will require some hiking, light bushwacking and rock scrambling. Please let us know if our Difficulty and Terrain ratings are accurate.
