Geocache Description:

Cache is located on the top of the highest Cuban mountain Pico Turquino (1,974 m (6,476 ft)).

Pico Turquino is the highest point in Cuba. It is located in the southeast part of the island, in the Sierra Maestra mountain range in Santiago de Cuba Province.



The name is believe to be a corruption of turquoise (Spanish: turquí) peak, named so for the blue hues taken by the heights in certain views. It was first mentioned (under the name "Tarquino") on a map drawn by Gerardo Kramer in the late 1700s.

A bust of José Martí, sculpted by Jilma Madera, was placed on the peak to celebrate his centenary.

Turquino National Park is established on a 229.38 km2 (88.56 sq mi) area around the peak.

About the cache:
Cache is located at the very peak of this mountain and you don't need GPS to locate this cache (see pictures and spoiler bellow).

WARNING!!!:
If you don't have a permit from ministry, you are not allowed to use GPS in Cuba, so be careful not to be seen! Or just use pictures and hint to find this one. And secondary, since you have to have a local guide to take you to the national park, be careful not to be seen when picking the cache! If there is a danger of being spotted, better leave cache where it is and just make pictures of yourselves on the top with the statue behind you and post it here. I'll accept such logs!
