Pull out your calendar and start
checking off the days until you can log this cache. This cache
requires you to find a cache on each of the 365 days on a calendar
(366 if it is leap year). This does not mean straight through
caching for a whole year (unless you want to do that), read below
for full requirements.
The Background
Off and on for the past few years I have heard cachers talking
about days during a calendar year they have not cached. One of the
days many have not cached is December 25. (My first year caching I
was out there on December 25.) Others have talked about how thin
their calendars look in February. Another cacher I know said tax
season was thin for him. (Although he already had April 15 knocked
off.)
I figured over five years I must have hit 300-325 of the days.
Finally, I sat down and looked back over the past five years and
found out I had only hit 244 of the days. That left one third or
122 days to hit. Sounded like a challenge to me. So the concept was
born to make sure that you have found a cache on each of the days
of the year.
The Rules
- Find at least one cache on each of the 365 days on a calendar
(366 if you are logging the final in a leap year).
- This does not mean straight through caching for a whole year, a
cache found in any year qualifies. (For example, you could use
1/1/09, 1/2/08, 1/3/05, etc.)
- All cache types except Virtual and Locationless (Reverse)
caches count. For events, the day the event was held is what
counts, not the date you posted your log. (Multiday events count on
the first day you attended.)
- If you have multiple finds on a cache, only the first one
counts. You will need to find 365/366 different caches.
- If you prefind a cache, but can’t log a find until a
later date, or delay logging it to another date, it does not
count.
- For the most part, this is a cache of honor and it is up to you
to know you have fulfilled the requirements without fudging
anything. No posting of proof is necessary, but feel free if you
want to brag.
- I would like the first five to log this cache to send me a list
of all caches that they found either as an excel or gpx file. I do
reserve the right to ask others for a list if needed.
The Cache
The cache is placed at the posted coordinates. The cache is placed
in an area known both as Mountain Area Conservation Area and as
Littles Brook Conservation Area. The cache is along the southeast
edge that borders the Burlington Overlook Park. (That is the fence
you will see at this location.) Parking can be found at Overlook
Park, down on Mountain Ave or at the bend in Glen Ave.
Acknowledgements
I wish I could say I was the first to think of this type of
challenge, but I was not. Some searching on geocaching.com turned
up few other caches along the same concept:
GC1YG9J - 366 Days of Caching by IndyMagicMan (Indiana)
GC1KZ9X - OBG Bingo placed by Old Billygoat (Manitoba)
GC1KRHP - 365 Day OBG Bingo - Saskatchewan Edition
GC1AG09 - A Cache A Day ... for 365 Days? (Minnesota)
GC1XYQ4 - The 366 day Challenge (North Carolina)
GC1N2Q6 - A Cache Every Day... (New Hampshire)
After reading through these caches I see there are several cachers
who have already qualified for this cache. The New England cachers
that I recognized include: Bushwhack Bob, Hipointer and Capiti,
Kayak Kouple, koneko, and windsorhill5. I applaude these cachers
for already being in a position to claim this challenge as
completed. For them, I would challenge them to double up before
logging this one. (Not required)
FTFs (First-to-Finish)
The big FTF will be for the first one to finish this challenge
after the publication.
The second big FTF will be the first to finish using only caches
found after publication.
An FTF for the first to complete the 366 days worth. (Feb. 29
included.)
And of course, FTF for a cacher who has finished the requirements
prior to publication. (See the double up challenge listed
above.)
Good luck and good caching,
Loch Cache
